Stellantis EV Day 2021 saw some major announcements being made, chief of which was Dodge’s shocking promise to roll out an all-electric muscle car. Signaling that the limits of the internal combustion engine have been nearly reached, the American muscle car company says the only way to extract more power is to adopt electrification.
It won’t be released until 2024, but the adjacent teaser video suggests Dodge will come out with a concept car in the near future. Eagle-eyed readers will notice the zero-emissions muscle car is doing a four-wheel burnout, which likely means it features all-wheel drive courtesy of dual electric motors – one mounted at the front and the other at the rear.
Interestingly, Dodge insists it won’t sell electric vehicles, and yet the official clip clearly shows the shadowy profile of an EV. Perhaps the model in question won’t be labeled as a Dodge, but rather as a Mopar. For what it’s worth, Dodge vows to sell “American Muscle.” That honestly seems a bit confusing to be honest, but it’s pretty clear the muscle car, in general, is heading towards the EV era.
From a company known to extract absurd amounts of horsepower from an internal combustion engine, Dodge is ready to embrace electrification to take the muscle car genre to the next level. The makers of bonkers models such as the Challenger SRT Demon drag-racing king and the Charger Hellcat Redeye super sedan are getting ready to hop on the electric bandwagon.
There’s not much to go by looking at these teaser images, but we’re getting the impression it will be a retro-styled EV. We’re curious to find out what name Dodge will choose for its new breed of muscle cars, either a fresh moniker or it will revive an old name with an electric twist to signal the lack of a large-displacement combustion engine. The illuminated red logo is not all that new as it’s a modernized version of the Fratzog badge used from the early 1960s until the latter half of the 1970s.
