Genesis GV60 name confirmed, electric crossover has 430 horsepower

After Hyundai introduced the Ioniq 5 and Kia the EV6 earlier this year, all eyes are now on Genesis to present its electric crossover riding on the same E-GMP platform developed exclusively for EVs. The official reveal has to be around the corner since the GV60 has been spotted testing repeatedly in recent months and rumors are strongly suggesting it will be launched in the United States before year’s end.

In the meantime, the zero-emissions crossover has passed South Korea’s emission and noise certification test, which might not sound newsworthy, but this mandatory process reveals some juicy tidbits. For example, we now officially know it’s going to be called GV60 as plenty of reports have stated, and we also get to find out it will be available in both single- and dual-motor configurations.

The folks over at The Korean Car Blog managed to get a hold of the precious documents, revealing the Genesis GV60 will come in a base version with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 229 horsepower. That’s technically 229 PS, which works out to a slightly lower 226 hp or the same output you get in one of the EV6 variants.

Codenamed JW, the electric crossover will be available with AWD by adding an electric motor at the front axle. In this beefier setup, it’s going to have a combined output of 436 PS thanks to a pair of 218 PS e-motors mounted at the front and rear axles. Doing the conversion to metric horsepower, it means the all-paw GV60 will offer 430 hp.

It’s unclear whether these will two will be the only flavors of the GV60 or Genesis has plans to diversify the lineup with additional derivatives. It would make sense for the crossover to get the same high-end powertrain as the 577-hp Kia EV6 GT considering the model will cost more than the equivalent Hyundai and Kia EVs since it’ll be billed as a true luxury vehicle.

As a final note, it’s worth mentioning the available specs refer to the Genesis GV60 set to be sold in its domestic market. That being said, it’s unlikely the international model will be significantly different, if at all.
