Elon Musk says Tesla Cybertruck delayed to late 2022

Elon Musk has confirmed today that the Tesla Cybertruck was pushed to late 2022. When Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck back in 2019, Tesla said that the electric pickup truck would make it to market by the end of 2021. Musk allegedly said that ramp-up of the truck will be very difficult due to plethora of new technology. Musk had already hinted in a July call that the Model Y “obviously does take priority over the Cybertruck.” “It will be a special project. Like a glitch in the Matrix. Like if Neo had a car”, said Musk about the Cybertruck.

Tesla has quietly updated the ordering page for the Cybertruck to reflect the start of production has been pushed back to 2022. Whether you select the Single Motor RWD, Dual Motor AWD, or the Tri Motor AWD version.

Under its bulletproof skin is said to be some impressive specs. It will have three different powertrains, with one, two and three electric motors. It’s said to have anywhere between 250-500 miles of range, depending on spec, and enough power in the three-motor spec to get from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds. Musk claims the tri-motor Tesla Cybertruck can tow 14,000 pounds yet out-handle a Porsche 911. All of that sounds very expensive and it likely will be in the end. It’s said the entry-level Tesla Cybertruck will start at $39,900.

The fact Tesla has pushed back the release of the Cybetruck should not come as a big surprise seeing as how the company is notoriously known for not living up to its promises in regards to new model launches. The Model S Refresh was supposed to hit the market in February, but that didn’t happen until June. Not only that, but to our knowledge, the Model X Refresh still hasn’t reached customers, despite being unveiled at the beginning of the year together with the sedan.
