2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale Grille Revealed In Teaser Video

A new Alfa Romeo model doesn’t come very often, so whenever that happens, you can rest assured the teaser campaign is going to be quite extensive. Case in point, the Tonale has been teased numerous times, but there’s still time for more previews until the big debut scheduled for February 8. The latest clip puts the spotlight on the iconic front grille, adorned by the famous badge.

Even though the Tonale won’t be an all-Alfa Romeo product since it will ride on a platform shared with other Stellantis models, the Italian marque has gone through great lengths to create a distinct visual identity. The sub-Stelvio model will be molded after a concept car unveiled three years ago and will do battle in a crowded segment with many compact luxury crossovers.

The Tonale is important not only because it’s a fresh product from Alfa Romeo, but also thanks to its powertrain as it will be the firm’s first-ever electrified model. The flagship trim level will adopt a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a gasoline engine and an electric motor contributing to an all-wheel-drive system. We’ve heard it will pack 240 horsepower and should offer a decent amount of electric range, although the battery’s size is not known for now.

Debuting in a week from today, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale is said to come in both LHD and RHD configurations along with a choice of three versions: Super, Sprint, and Ti. For a limited amount of time, there should be a fully loaded Special model with 20-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, and Alcantara for the interior.

The PHEV setup we mentioned earlier could be shared with the Jeep Renegade 4xe, but tweaked for better performance since Alfa Romeo remains a sporty brand at its core. The five-seater crossover is expected to have a 12.3-inch fully digital driver’s display and a slightly smaller 10.25-inch touchscreen for a revamped infotainment system.

Named after an Italian mountain pass located in the Rhaetian Alps, the Tonale will also be offered with conventional gasoline and diesel engines priced below the PHEV. It will be built at the Pomigliano d’Arco factory in Italy and should go on sale in the coming months in Europe. Alfa Romeo plans to launch the new model in the United States as well but at a later date.
