Even though it won’t go on sale until 2024, the Ram electric pickup truck was originally teased back in July 2021. While it doesn’t have a confirmed official name just yet, a clue has emerged that may or may not indicate how the EV ute will be baptized. Parent company Stellantis through its North American branch (FCA US LLC) has filed to trademark “Revolution” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
It’s too soon to know for sure whether Revolution will become a badge on Ram’s first EV in two years’ time, but there is a distinct possibility it will happen. Why? Because the trademark was filed with the USPTO for “motor vehicles, namely, passenger trucks.” By not carrying the “1500” moniker, it likely means the company wants to have a clear distinction between the EV and the conventionally powered truck.
It would be a different strategy compared to what Chevrolet has done with the Silverado / Silverado EV and Ford with its F-150 / F-150 Lightning. The two fullsize trucks have retained their original names while adding a suffix to denote their zero-emissions nature. A fresh moniker could indicate it will ride on a completely different platform than the traditional 1500, but that remains to be seen.
An educated guess tells us the 2024 Ram Revolution or whatever it will be called is going to sit on the already announced STLA Frame architecture. It should have a body-on-frame platform as you would expect from a proper truck, complete with a massive 200-kWh battery for 500 miles (805 kilometers) of range. Fast-charging support has been confirmed and we’re expecting 20 miles for every minute of charge.
To be honest, the range seems overly optimistic as the electric truck is unlikely to match the quoted number in real life. It’s especially true if owners will actually use the pickup to its full potential by carrying and towing heavy loads.
When the EV workhorse was announced during the Stellantis EV Day 2021, Ram also promised it would launch a zero-emissions product in most segments its active by 2025. Further signaling its eco-friendly ambitions is a new company motto: “Built to Serve a Sustainable Planet.”
