For the umpteenth time this year, Tesla has quietly updated its online configurator to reflect a price increase for some of its models. This time around, the Model 3 and Model Y are affected, with the sedan now starting at $41,990 or $2,000 more than before for the entry-level Standard Range Plus trim. Tesla has also added an extra $1,000 to the Performance’s sticker, which now begins at $57,990. Only the Long Range’s pricing remains unchanged (for now), at $49,990.

Ordering a Model 3 Standard Range Plus now comes with an estimated delivery date of April 2022, but you can get the electric sedan sooner if you opt for the Long Range, which has an estimated delivery date of December 2021. The quickest way to get behind the wheel of a Model 3 is by stepping up to the Performance model, listed with a November delivery date.

""

Moving onto the Model Y, the electric crossover costs $1,000 more than before for the Long Range specification, meaning it will set you back $54,990 before any applicable EV incentives. Upgrade to the Performance and the price jumps by $1,000 to $61,990. Going for the sportier version will reduce the estimated delivery time from the Long Range’s April 2022 to December 2021.

It’s an interesting decision taken by Tesla when you take into account more and more rivals are hitting the market. However, the decision is justifiable in light of the microchip shortage, inflation, and increasing production costs. Nevertheless, cars like the Model 3 and Model Y are no longer the bargain EVs they used to be, especially since the competition is catching up in terms of technology and range.

There are no price modifications for the larger and more expensive Model S and Model X models, but the two are already more expensive than they were at the beginning of the year. In the case of the SUV, customer deliveries of the refreshed model have been pushed back, but they should finally commence later this month.
