To the surprise of no one, the company&#8217;s SUVs were by far the most popular, with the Cayenne claiming the sales crown with 62,451 units, followed closely by the smaller Macan crossover at 61,944 vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The real surprise is when you discover the identity of the last vehicle to climb the podium because it&#8217;s not the iconic 911. Yes, the <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2021\/08\/24\/2022-porsche-taycan-revealed-with-android-auto-support-and-retro-colors\/\">Taycan electric sedan<\/a> managed to beat the sports car in the sales race, claiming third place with a total of 28,640 EVs delivered so far this year. The zero-emissions model is only in its second full year on the market and has registered an increase in customer demand of 10% compared to the first three quarters of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The legendary 911 had to settle for fourth place, but it&#8217;s not as bad as it may seem because deliveries actually rose by 10% to 27,972 units, so it lagged only a little bit behind the Taycan of which the total number includes the Cross Turismo wagon. In fifth place came the Panamera \/ Panamera Sport Turismo grand tourer with 20,275 examples while the 718 Boxster \/ Cayman were dead last with 15,916 deliveries.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4735\" src=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2021-Porsche-Taycan-Cross-Turismo-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2021-Porsche-Taycan-Cross-Turismo-15.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2021-Porsche-Taycan-Cross-Turismo-15-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s going to be a new name on that list in 2022 when Porsche will introduce an electric crossover to serve as a next-generation Macan, but it will be offered exclusively as an EV and <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2021\/07\/18\/porsche-macan-ev-different-name\/\">quite possibly with a different name<\/a>. That&#8217;s because the gasoline-fueled Macan will soldier on for a few more years until the electric model will replace it altogether. To avoid confusion, the electric variant is rumored to adopt a fresh moniker.<\/p>\n<p>The aforementioned 718 models are also expected to switch to an EV setup for the next generation, as hinted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2021\/09\/06\/2021-iaa-porsche-mission-r-is-an-all-electric-customer-race-car\/\">Mission R concept car<\/a> unveiled last month at IAA in Munich. A smaller sedan positioned below the Taycan is rumored to come after the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3, but that remains to be seen.
