The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX has been a long time coming considering the Wolfsburg company originally teased the performance electric SUV in late April when it unveiled the ID.4 GTX. The coupe-styled sports utility vehicle with zero emissions then made an appearance as a prototype during the IAA Munich show last month. Finally, the production version will break cover next week, on November 3.

The announcement was made by one of the company’s official social media accounts, revealing the sleeker silhouette of the all-electric SUV twinned with the upcoming Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV and the already revealed Audi Q4 Sportback E-Tron. While VW has only been talking about the sportier GTX derivative, it will be interesting to see whether there are plans to sell the model in lesser trim levels.

We are expecting the technical specifications to mirror those of the ID.4 GTX, meaning the equivalent ID.5 GTX will feature a dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive and 295 horsepower (220 kilowatts). Chances are the ID.5 GTX will primarily rely on the rear motor as the front-mounted motor will kick in only when the sensors will detect a lack of traction or when the driver is going to need more power, automatically enabling AWD.
