Even though Hyundai introduced the Ioniq 5 in February 2021, the electric crossover is already receiving a significant update in Europe. While right now you can have the bespoke EV with a choice between either a 58- or 72.6-kWh battery, a bigger 77.4-kWh pack will be added later this year. If the battery’s capacity seems familiar, that’s because the Ioniq 5 sold in the United States already has it.

Another important change brought by the 2023 model year is the availability of side cameras to replace the traditional glass. The optional feature goes by the official name of Digital Side Mirrors (DSM) and has been available at home in South Korea since the Ioniq 5 was launched last year. It’s the first Hyundai in Europe to get this feature and aside from providing a clearer view of what’s behind, it also improves aerodynamic efficiency. It does so by reducing air resistance after replacing the bulky mirror caps with tiny cameras.

Since we’re on the subject of cameras, the Euro-spec Ioniq 5 is also gaining a Digital Center Mirror (DCM). The new piece of hardware is mounted below the crossover’s rear spoiler and will deliver an unobstructed, wide-angle view to diminish the risk of crashing into a car behind you. While the Digital Side Mirrors come with screens mounted on the door cards near the A-pillars, the Digital Center Mirror replaces the conventional center rearview mirror.

""

Another change coming to the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 in Europe is the battery conditioning feature, which will automatically change the battery pack’s temperature on the go to guarantee the best charging conditions for when you arrive at the charging station. The system will prolong the charging performance of the battery, especially during the cold season. The EV turns on this feature the moment you enter a charging point in the navigation system.

For better comfort, Hyundai’s engineers have made tweaks to the Smart Frequency Dampers (SFD) function to optimize the response of both front and rear suspensions. The 2023 model year will also come along with the possibility to order unpainted black bumpers with black garnishes combined with the Projection LED lights.

Hyundai will have the revised Ioniq 5 on sale in Europe in the latter half of the year.
