Mercedes unveiled the Tesla Model 3-rivaling EQE back in September 2021 at the IAA Munich show and now it’s getting ready to introduce the performance version. The first-ever AMG EQE 53 will premiere on January 16 at 00:01 AM CET, and in the meantime, a 26-second teaser shows what to expect.

It will be the second electric AMG in recent months following the introduction of the larger AMG EQS. Seeing as how the Benz-branded EVs share a lot of the design traits, it should be a similar story with the smaller EQE. Of course, the latter will be a sedan with a trunk lid whereas the flagship fullsize electric car from Mercedes has a more practical liftgate.

While the current EQE 350 makes do with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 288 horsepower and 391 pound-feet, the AMG 53 model should have 4Matic courtesy of a front electric motor. We are not expecting the full 751 hp and 752 lb-ft available in the AMG EQS 53 as that would enable the amped-up EQE to step on its bigger brother’s toes.
