The Volkswagen Group is previewing a prototype for a mobile charging station that does all the work autonomously in a parking area to replenish the batteries of EVs. The cutesy robot can be activated via a smartphone app or by using Car-to-X communication to detect the car and head to it together with a mobile energy storage unit.<\/p>\n

While the energy storage unit obviously stays with the EV during the charging process, the robot itself goes back and picks up another energy storage unit. It then connects it to another electric vehicle in the parking lot. Once the charging process ends, the robot picks up the energy storage units and returns them to the central charging station.<\/p>\n
