It\u2019s currently working on several new all-electric models that will all debut within the current decade. However, the four-ringed brand\u2019s plans may have become even more ambitious, as Audi CEO Markus Duesmann recently told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com\/translate?hl=&amp;sl=auto&amp;tl=en&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wiwo.de%2Fmy%2Funternehmen%2Fauto%2Faudi-chef-markus-duesmann-der-gruene-raser%2F26775568.html%3Fticket%3DST-103293-rGahXSes9XcTCzWsLOkk-ap6&amp;sandbox=1\">Wirtschafts Woche<\/a>\u00a0that the brand plans of going entirely electric within the next twenty years.<\/p>\n<p>While that\u2019s not a hard twenty-year out for internal combustion, 2040 is sort of the desired timeline date for such a transition. According to Duesmann, Audi is currently developing a transition timeline to phase out current existing internal combustion engine models. Those models would then either become fully electric or be killed off altogether.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of 2021, Audi will have six all-electric vehicles and twelve plug-in hybrid models on sale, eighteen electrified vehicles in total. But that\u2019s just the beginning. Audi wants to have twenty all-electric models on sale by 2025 and, if it can do that, it could become an all-electric brand sooner than later.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2021-audi-e-tron-sportback-test-drive-45.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2938\" src=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2021-audi-e-tron-sportback-test-drive-45.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2021-audi-e-tron-sportback-test-drive-45.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2021-audi-e-tron-sportback-test-drive-45-1536x1024.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although, Audi has already said that it\u2019s going to continue its development of internal combustion engines, in an attempt to make them as efficient as possible. Even as Audi starts to phase out internal combustion, gasoline-powered engines will still have a place in the lineup. Plug-in hybrids will likely act as long-distance models in the lineup, allowing customers that frequently drive hundreds of miles at a time a more usable vehicle. While the rest of Audi\u2019s customers can choose from one of its EVs.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, there are only four different Audi EVs to choose from and two of them are just model variants. The <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2020\/03\/02\/first-drive-audi-e-tron-an-electric-suv\/\">Audi e-tron<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2020\/12\/20\/2020-audi-e-tron-sportback-drive-review\/\">e-tron Sportback<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2020\/12\/04\/quick-drive-audi-e-tron-sportback\/\">e-tron S<\/a> and e-tron Sportback S are currently the only four EVs in the brand\u2019s lineup. However, by the end of the year, we\u2019ll see the Audi e-tron GT and the Audi Q4 e-tron, both of which will be entirely electric. We\u2019ll also likely see several new plug-ins debut this year.<\/p>\n<p>So with all of that in mind, Audi\u2019s goal of becoming entirely electric within the next twenty years actually doesn\u2019t seem that far-fetched. But will other automakers follow suit?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2021-audi-e-tron-sportback-test-drive-43.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2936\" src=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2021-audi-e-tron-sportback-test-drive-43.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2021-audi-e-tron-sportback-test-drive-43.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2021-audi-e-tron-sportback-test-drive-43-1536x1024.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>BMW also has ambitious plans to electrify more of its models, though, it does seem a bit late to the party. The <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2020\/11\/11\/bmw-ix-horsepower-range\/\">BMW iX<\/a> is BMW\u2019s first true from-the-ground-up electric car since the i3 and it\u2019s not even on sale yet. While both Audi e-tron models on sale are built on existing platforms, they aren\u2019t just electrified versions of existing models, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2020\/11\/04\/test-drive-bmw-ix3\/\">BMW iX3<\/a>. Same goes for the Mercedes-Benz EQC.<\/p>\n<p>However, we do know that BMW has more EVs planned for the near future, including the i4, an electrified 7 Series, an iX1 and potentially even a fully-electric M5.
