It was one of the most economical cars in its class thanks to a curb weight of 895 kilograms (1,973 pounds) for the base model before options. The peculiar styling was a turnoff, though, so sales never lived up to Ingosltadt\u2019s expectation, which ultimately decided to phase out the car in 2005 after only six years on the market.<\/p>\n<p>Guess what? The spirit of the A2 could return, according to an Audi official. In an interview with British magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/future-audi-a1-doubt-revival-a2-ev-cards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Autocar<\/em><\/a>, head honcho Markus Duesmann admitted the A1 supermini\u2019s future is in doubt and that it could be replaced by an A2-like car. When asked about the nameplate\u2019s return, Audi\u2019s boss said: Maybe not exactly with that design, but I like the A2. Certainly we discuss\u00a0the A2 segment\u00a0as well. So it might be an A2 or an \u2018E2\u2019, or an\u00a0A3\u00a0or an \u2018E3\u2019. We\u2019re at the moment discussing that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4207\" src=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2019-audi-AIME-concept-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2019-audi-AIME-concept-2.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2019-audi-AIME-concept-2-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Audi has already hinted at the revival of an A2-esque model with the AI:ME pictured here. Revealed in 2019, the concept proposed the idea of an electric city car, which would fit the description made by Duesmann. <em>Autocar<\/em> has the same opinion, saying Audi \u201cis understood to be working on an electric successor to the 1999 A2 supermini, based on the AI:ME concept shown two years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4208\" src=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2019-audi-AIME-concept-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2019-audi-AIME-concept-1.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2019-audi-AIME-concept-1-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The disclosure was made by Duesmann this week while speaking to journalists ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2021\/02\/09\/2022-audi-e-tron-gt-reveal\/\">2022 E-Tron GT\u2019s<\/a> debut yesterday.
