While the model\u2019s identity has been shrouded in mystery, the cat is now pretty much out of the bag. <em>Automotive News<\/em> reports the new EV in question will bear the name \u201cC40\u201d and is going to take the shape of a crossover coupe.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <em>AN<\/em>, Volvo Retail Advisory Board Chairman Ernie Norcross described the upcoming zero-emissions model as being \u201ca great-looking vehicle.\u201d He went on to say the EV\u2019s arrival in North America is \u201cgoing to hit right where we need it to. We haven\u2019t had a small crossover and consumers have asked for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_737\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-737\" style=\"width: 2560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-737\" src=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/259204_Volvo_XC40_Recharge_P8_AWD_in_Glacier_Silver-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/259204_Volvo_XC40_Recharge_P8_AWD_in_Glacier_Silver-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/259204_Volvo_XC40_Recharge_P8_AWD_in_Glacier_Silver-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/259204_Volvo_XC40_Recharge_P8_AWD_in_Glacier_Silver-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-737\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 AWD in Glacier Silver<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s seen by the dealers as an entry-level model, so it will be presumably smaller and more affordable than the XC40 Recharge P8 pictured here. It is unclear at this point whether the crossover-coupe will be sold purely as an EV or Volvo also has plans to offer the new upcoming vehicle with combustion engines as well to broaden its customer base.<\/p>\n<p>Getting the 281-dealer network ready for EVs is going to take a lot of work and investments estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars to retool dealerships to sell and service cars that don\u2019t have a traditional powertrain. Ernie Norcross told <em>Automotive News<\/em> that each and every dealership will have to spend anywhere between $50,000 to as much as $300,000, but these numbers are not final yet. Volvo\u2019s dealer network is still crunching the numbers, but it\u2019s a known fact the automaker is not looking to subsidize the investments made by dealers.<\/p>\n<p>For 2021, Volvo wants a quarter of its global sales to be represented by <a href=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/2021\/02\/07\/volvo-ceo-ambitious-electric-sales-target\/\">plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles<\/a>. The Swedish automaker owned by Geely is looking to become a purely electric brand by the end of the decade and to get there, it will launch a new EV every year.
