Fast forward to February 2021, the sports utility vehicle has made an early debut.<\/p>\n<p>Discovered by American magazine <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motortrend.com\/news\/karma-ev-suv-patent-pictures-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Motor Trend<\/a><\/em>, these patent drawings published by Karma with the <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfpiw.uspto.gov\/.piw?PageNum=0&amp;docid=D0910490&amp;IDKey=1D4D1C757408%0D%0A&amp;HomeUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fpatft.uspto.gov%2Fnetacgi%2Fnph-Parser%3FSect2%3DPTO1%2526Sect2%3DHITOFF%2526p%3D1%2526u%3D%25252Fnetahtml%25252FPTO%25252Fsearch-bool.html%2526r%3D1%2526f%3DG%2526l%3D50%2526d%3DPALL%2526S1%3DD910490.PN.%2526OS%3DPN%2FD910490%2526RS%3DPN%2FD910490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">United States Patent and Trademark Office<\/a> (USPTO) show what may end up as the company\u2019s first SUV. It\u2019s too soon to say whether it\u2019s headed for production, but the sketches do depict a road-going vehicle rather than some flamboyant concept with exaggerated design details.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4450\" src=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Karma-SUV-Patent-8.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"875\" height=\"492\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The USPTO document reveals Karma filed to register this design patent back in April 2019, but it wasn\u2019t until earlier this week (February 16) when it was published. There are no technical specifications available at the moment of writing, but we can see the SUV has a relatively small greenhouse for such a large vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re also noticing pop-out door handles that remain flush with the bodywork when not in use to improve the vehicle\u2019s aerodynamic efficiency. The front fenders seem to be vented to presumably cool the brakes unless those slats are only there for design purposes. The taillight design and wide LED strip make us think of a Porsche Cayenne \/ Cayenne Coupe, as do some of the other styling cues.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4451\" src=\"https:\/\/evglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Karma-SUV-Patent-5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"875\" height=\"492\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It would seem Karma is taking the coupe-SUV approach, compromising some of the practicality for a gently sloped roofline eating into the rear headroom and cargo capacity. It\u2019s more along the lines of a low-slung wagon with an all-electric powertrain. <em>Motor Trend<\/em> speculates it could also be sold as a plug-in hybrid, presumably with the turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine of the Revero, which in turn borrows it from BMW.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s too premature to tell whether Karma\u2019s zero-emissions vehicle will ever see the light of day, but the company sure could use this model in today\u2019s SUV-hungry market.
