The most affordable 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E money can buy kicks off at $43,995 once you factor in the mandatory destination charges. That’s a lot more than the recently unveiled 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, available from $33,995 with destination. However, this massive $10,000 price difference vanishes once you factor in all the available price cuts for the Blue Oval’s electric SUV.
For starters, the Mach-E can still be had with the full $7,500 federal tax credit, unlike the new Bolt EUV. That brings the price down to $36,495, and on top of that, customers can take advantage of a $2,500 discount through the Ford Options Plan, which is along the lines of a regular lease plan. Doing the math, the zero-emissions ‘Stang has a sticker price of $33,995, thus matching that of the newcomer from Chevy.
Ok, perhaps this isn’t a completely fair comparison since the Bolt EUV was unveiled only a few days ago and therefore Chevy has yet to announce any potential incentives for those interested in leasing or buying outright. But if you don’t want to wait and you have around $35,000 to spend, it’s certainly interesting to be able to pick from two significantly different vehicles.
If you’re looking to spend less on your next EV purchase, Chevy has lowered the starting price of the Bolt hatchback by more than $5,000 despite making several improvements for the 2022 model year. The electric hatch, now starts at just $31,995 and offers 259 miles of range or nine miles more than the slightly larger and heavier Bolt EUV. For the sake of comparison, the base Mustang Mach-E has 230 miles of range and is rear-wheel-drive rather than the Bolt models, which send their power to the front wheels.
It probably won’t take too long before the company with the bowtie emblem will introduce some incentives for the pair of Bolt EVs. In the meantime, there are likely some enticing deals to be had for the remaining 2021 Bolt inventory to make room at dealer lots for the new version programmed to go on sale this summer.
