With the demise of the short-lived Citigo-e iV, the new Enyaq iV is the sole electric vehicle in Skoda’s portfolio. The good news is more zero-emissions models are on the way as no fewer than three EVs will be launched by the end of the decade. The announcement was made today by the company’s CEO Thomas Schäfer while detailing the “Next Level – Skoda Strategy 2030.”
Details about the models have not been provided, but Skoda’s head honcho did say all three are going to be more affordable than the Enyaq iV. In addition, he went on to mention these new electric cars will be smaller in size than the SUV, which stretches at 4648 mm long, 1877 mm wide, and 1618 mm tall. One of the models will likely be an entry-level car to serve as a direct successor to the Citigo-e iV and take the shape of Skoda’s version of the Volkswagen ID.1 coming in 2025.
A more compact crossover is also on the way and we’ve heard Skoda saying every now and then that an Octavia-like EV is on the agenda, but it doesn’t have a firm release date so far. Meanwhile, the Czech automaker is expected to unveil a coupe-styled version of the Enyaq with a more sloping roofline for added style at the expense of practicality since rear headroom and cargo capacity will likely decrease.
It’s important to point out Skoda specifies that at least three EVs will be launched by 2030, so there is a distinct possibility more are on the way. The VW Group-owned brand expects 50% to 70% of its annual sales in Europe to be represented by electric cars by the end of the decade. In nine years from now, both e-components and e-models will be manufactured at all three Czech plants: Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny, and Vrchlabí.
Compared to 2020, Skoda aims to cut fleet emissions by more than 50% by 2030 when it hopes to achieve carbon neutrality at its Czech and Indian factories.
