2024 Hyundai Ioniq 7 large electric SUV technical specs come into focus

When it comes to Hyundai’s electric portfolio, the Ioniq 5 has been getting most of the attention. Built on a bespoke EV platform to offer a cabin just as roomy as combustion-engined SUVs from a segment above, the zero-emissions midsize vehicle will be followed next year by the Ioniq 6 – an electric sedan preview by the Prologue concept. And after that? The Ioniq 7, due in early 2024.

The large electric SUV has already been teased by the South Korean brand, although official details are slim at this point. We do know it will ride on the same E-GMP platform as the other two Ioniq models, but there will be some major changes if we were to rely on a fresh report from Auto Express. The British magazine claims the three-row model’s wheelbase will surpass the already massive 3,000 mm (118.1 in) distance between the axles of the Ioniq 5.

The added footprint will enable Hyundai’s engineers to fit a larger battery pack, with the report speculating it could be a 100-kWh pack. That should be good for a maximum range between cycles of approximately 400 miles (644 kilometers) based on the WLTP cycle, which is quite impressive given the sheer size and weight of the Ioniq 7.

Interestingly, Auto Express goes on to say the big electric SUV could support wireless charging, although it remains to be seen whether the technology will be ready in only three years from now. If not, ultra-fast charging at 350 kW will be embedded, which should translate into 62 miles (100 kilometers) of range after just five minutes of charging.

Being a dedicated EV, it will have a completely flat floor design and Hyundai could cram in more tech to justify the premium it will command over the Ioniq 5. Over-the-air updates will make the Ioniq 7 better with time courtesy of software revisions, while a dual-motor AWD setup seems like an educated guess. This setup produces as much as 507 horsepower in the mechanically related Kia EV6 GT and should provide more than adequate performance in Hyundai’s big SUV.

Seeing as how the Ioniq 5 was previewed by the Concept 45 while the Ioniq 6 by the Prophecy concept, there is a pretty good chance Hyundai will also unveil a concept to serve as a window into the Ioniq 7’s concept. With the production model going on sale in 2024, the showcar could be unveiled as early as next year.
