After the 2021 model year saw the introduction of a rear-wheel-drive sedan and the Cross Turismo wagon, the Porsche Taycan is understandably getting less significant updates for the upcoming 2022MY. That said, the much-awaited Android Auto integration is finally available for the high-performance electric sedan. That’s the good news since there’s some bad news to share as it only works with a wired connection by hooking up the smartphone to a USB-C port. It’s a bit disappointing considering much more affordable cars nowadays offer wireless Android Auto support.
Speaking of smartphones, the 2022 Taycan will be available with an optional Remote Park Assist system allowing owners to remotely control parking maneuvers without being behind the wheel by simply using a smartphone app. It works for both perpendicular and parallel parking spaces and it should come in handy in a tight spot when there’s not enough room to open the doors.
How does it work? Remote Park Assist relies on cameras and ultrasonic sensors to detect whether there’s enough space to park the car. When it finds a free space, it does all the heavy lifting by steering the Taycan and moving it forward and reverse provided the owner hits a button on the app’s interface. If the button is no longer pressed, the automatic parking maneuver stops.
The model year change comes along with improved thermal management and charging functions. Using the Turbo Charging Planner heats the battery pack at a slightly higher temperature than before, which means the battery is charged at a faster rate earlier in the charging cycle. That translates to a marginally shorter charging time. Not only that, but the excess heat from the Taycan’s electrical bits is now used to a greater extent for battery temperature regulation.
Last but certainly not least, Porsche is bringing back some retro-flavored colors made famous by the iconic 911 sports car back in the 1990s. These are available from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, giving buyers the chance to pick from no fewer than 65 Paint to Sample colors to complement the standard 17 hues.
Fancy colors include this striking Rubystar, but also Acid Green, Riviera Blue, Viola Metallic, and Moonlight Blue Metallic. If none of these exclusive paints tickle your fancy, there’s a Paint to Sample Plus option giving customers virtually endless ways to paint their Taycans, including special hues to match the owner’s preferred accessory.
Porsche mentions these changes are also coming to the long-roof Taycan Cross Turismo for the 2022 model year and that the updated EVs will arrive at dealers in the United States towards the end of the year.
