2022 Kia Niro EV Gets Estimated Range Of 463 Kilometers In Europe

Kia introduced the all-new Niro in late November last year and we haven’t heard much about the crossover since then. Thankfully, the company’s Swedish branch has let it slip the electric version will be able to cover up to 463 kilometers (288 miles) between charges. Bear in mind it’s not an official WLTP rating, but rather a preliminary figure pending homologation.

As a reminder, the all-electric Niro has a 64.8-kWh battery pack providing juice to an electric motor pumping out 201 hp (150 kW) and 188 lb-ft (255 Nm) as its predecessor. Even if that figure will remain unchanged, it will still significantly come down in North America where EPA’s rating is considerably more realistic. As a refresher, the old electric crossover has an official WLTP rating of 455 km (283 miles) while its American cousin can cover 385 km (239 miles).

Should the estimated number provided by Kia Sweden remain unchanged for the WLTP rating, it would bring a minor bump in the range of 8 kilometers (5 miles). Yes, it’s not much but still better than nothing.

Elsewhere, the 2022 Niro Plug-In Hybrid is listed with a maximum electric range of 37 miles (60 kilometers) courtesy of its 11.1-kWh battery. The pack is actually a tad bigger than before (8.9 kWh), but as is the case with the EV model, the range is provisional rather than a confirmed WLTP rating.

You’ll want the purely electric version if practicality is a priority since the Niro EV can hold 495 liters of cargo, provided you include the front trunk with its 20-liter capacity. As for the PHEV model, it can store up to 451 liters. By extending the wheelbase to 2,720 mm, Kia has made the cabin more spacious in terms of legroom for rear passengers.

Kia will sell the 2022 Niro in Sweden in Action, Advance, and Advance Plus trim levels. Pricing kicks off at 334,400 kr (about $35,500) for the standard non-PHEV hybrid and rises to 543,900 kr ($57,700) for the EV in the top trim.
