MINI John Cooper Works (J01) Teased

MINI is set to break new ground with the introduction of its inaugural electric John Cooper Works model, the MINI John Cooper Works E Prototype. This JCW variant of the recently unveiled J01 Cooper will make its debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed next week. MINI highlights that this latest addition to the JCW lineup will offer both petrol and all-electric versions, catering to performance enthusiasts with a broader range of choices.

While MINI is withholding full details of the John Cooper Works E, the car is expected to make its full debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. The prototype features a “37” logo, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Mini Cooper S’s 1964 Rallye Monte Carlo victory. The aggressive styling typical of JCW models is evident, along with a refreshed logo.

The recently unveiled JCW package showcases a distinctive front grille frame and logo in high-gloss black, adding a unique flair. Optional JCW bonnet stripes in Chili Red or black enhance the car’s visual appeal. At the rear, expect a sporty spoiler, a significant diffuser insert, and redesigned Union Jack taillights to contribute to the car’s sporty aesthetics.

In terms of specifications, the J01 Cooper JCW builds on the standard electric model’s foundation. The top SE version produces 218 horsepower and 330 Newton-meters of torque, suggesting that the new Cooper JCW will surpass these figures. It will likely use the same 54.2-kWh battery pack, which offers a 250-mile range in the Cooper SE, though the increased power output may slightly reduce this range. The charging capacity is expected to remain at 95 kW.

The MINI John Cooper Works E Prototype will demonstrate its prowess on the challenging hill climb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, running from July 11-14, 2024.
