We never thought the day would come when reporting on an EV-focused website about what is happening during Saturday Night Live would be relevant, but here we are. Yes, Elon Musk did host SNL, thus putting TV host on his resume right next to Paypal, Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company – all of which he co-founded.

Highlights from last night’s episode have been released on the official SNL channel on YouTube where you can see the 49-year-old entrepreneur being a part-time comedian. It might come as a surprise to some, but Elon Musk is listed as a fully fledged actor on IMBD after appearing in an episode of The Big Bang Theory and in the spin-off series Young Sheldon.

He was also included in the casts for Iron Man 2, Machete Kills, and Why Him? while IMDB says he was also the executive producer of five titles, with a sixth one involving Tom Cruise and SpaceX in the works. Meanwhile, you can see the Pretoria-born business magnate making jokes during SNL. Some members of the usual cast have expressed their skepticism regarding Musk’s appearance in the show, but as you can see, it very much happened.

Elon Musk is not the first Saturday Night Live host to cause a stir as the same thing happened back in 2015 when SNL announced none other than Donald Trump would go on to make an appearance. Going back in time, Andrew Dice Clay hosted SNL in 1990 even though his jokes were quite vulgar, to say the least.

It remains to be seen what people will think of Elon Musk’s performance during SNL, but there is no denying the man who crowned himself as Tesla’s official “Technoking” knows how to create hype. His appearance during Saturday Night Live is just the latest publicity stunt in a long string of marketing moves he has taken over the years, some good and some not so much.

An internal e-mail sent by Elon Musk to Tesla employees made the headlines earlier this week, showing the CEO’s confidence regarding the company’s ability to build and deliver 500,000 cars by the end of the year. To get there, the 49-year-old executive took to Twitter to announce an EOY incentive for anyone buying a new Tesla.

With the purchase of a Tesla between now and the end of 2020, every new owner will get three months of full self-driving for free. It’s important to mention this is more of a promise of a future freebie rather than a feature that customers will be getting right away since FSD is still in the beta phase. The full self-driving system is expected to roll out via an over-the-air update sometime next year, so owners will have to patiently wait.

To take advantage of the three-month FSD offer at no cost, Musk says the car must be delivered by midnight December 31, 2020 and all the documents have to be finalized by then. On the road to fully autonomous driving capabilities, Tesla’s self-driving tech has seen several price hikes in recent times and it’s now a $10,000 option.

At some point after FSD will become available for all Tesla owners, the company says it will also offer the software upgrade as a subscription. However, it’s not known at this point how much it’s going to cost per month. In a tweet earlier this month, Musk promised to release details about the FSD subscription at the beginning of 2021.

Some would argue the term “Full Self-Driving” used by Tesla is misleading considering the SAE International standards for autonomy consider only the Level 4 and Level 5 to be truly self-driving, without requiring any human intervention. FSD will only work in certain situations, but Elon Musk has promised it will eventually be upgraded to reach 100-percent autonomy.

Elon Musk confident Tesla production in 2020 can still hit 500,000 cars https://evglobe.com/2020/12/27/elon-musk-tesla-production-500000-cars/ https://evglobe.com/2020/12/27/elon-musk-tesla-production-500000-cars/#respond Sun, 27 Dec 2020 21:00:04 +0000 https://evglobe.com/?p=3139 Tesla built 145,036 cars in the third quarter of 2020 and delivered 139,300 in the same timeframe. Tesla built 145,036 cars in the third quarter of 2020 and delivered 139,300 in the same timeframe. The Palo Alto-based company had a record quarter, but Q4 needs to be even better for the EV marque to hit reach its goal of 500,000 cars built and delivered in a year. Head honcho Elon Musk is confident the target is still attainable, even though it must deliver more than 40,000 vehicles compared to the previous quarter.

The 49-year-old businessman sent an e-mail to Tesla employees, encouraging them to make one final effort this year to achieve the ambitious objective. Electrek managed to get a hold of that alleged e-mail, which quotes Elon Musk saying:

“Please go all out to make it happen. This is a great milestone to rally the company around achieving. All the critics who, as recently as two years ago said that we’d never make it, also called our target of half a million in 2020 ‘impossible.’ The heck with them, we are doing it!”

It’s crunch time for Tesla as the end of the year is right around the corner and hitting 500,000 cars would prove naysayers wrong. Manufacturing the cars necessary to hit that mark only solves half the problem as they also must be shipped to their owners as soon as possible. For this reason, the company’s CEO is asking employees working at the end of the assembly line to make sure everything is in order since there’s no time to fix any issues that might be detected during the pre-delivery inspection.

It’s worth pointing out the cars currently being made are only the Model 3 and Model Y as the bigger and more expensive Model S and Model X are on a hiatus. Production of the two high-end vehicles was paused on December 24 and won’t be resumed until January 11. It is believed the temporary shutdown has to do with an impending styling update for the duo, but that remains to be seen. In the meantime, Tesla is busy churning out the cheaper EVs.
