Tesla’s 1100-HP Model S Plaid runs to 60 mph in less than 2 seconds

At its Battery Day event this week, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk introduced a video of the upcoming Model S Plaid pulling off a 1.30.3 lap time at Laguna Seca. At the same time, Musk claimed a zero-to-60-mph time of less than two seconds and a quarter-mile of less than nine seconds.

The high-end Model S comes with a tri-motor offering 520 miles of range and 1100 horsepower. So now Tesla offers more range than the recently unveiled Lucid Air. The Model S Plaid has a top speed of 200 mph. Earlier this month, Lucid Air posted a 1:33 time around the famous Laguna Seca.

Musk has also said the Plaid car would have a battery pack larger than 100 kilowatt hours.

The Model S Plaid costs $139,990 and it’s scheduled to arrive in late 2021. The options list include extra-cost paint colors, larger 21-inch wheels, different interior schemes and the $8,000 “Full Self-Driving” option.
