Porsche Taycan rental plan launched from $295 a day

With a starting price of $79,900 in the United States, the Taycan isn’t exactly what we’d call an accessible electric vehicle. If the zero-emissions sedan is out of your reach, there’s now a much more affordable way to get behind the wheel of the company’s first EV. The Taycan has been added to the Porsche Drive Subscription and Rental program in the US and you can drive one for $295.

It’s worth pointing out the asking price is available only if you choose to rent the Taycan for at least four days, meaning you’ll end up paying at least $1,180. If you want to drive Porsche’s electric sports sedan for 1 to 3 days, the price per day increases to $335. You’ll be getting the 4S version, with the entry-level RWD model to be added to the rental program later this spring at a lower price tag.

Meanwhile, the base model can be had with a subscription plan, in which case paying $2,500 allows you to drive the entry-level Taycan for an entire month. Step up to the more powerful 4S version and the monthly fee increases to $3,250. Porsche goes on to say that all prices exclude taxes and fees, so you’ll have to either visit the Porsche Drive website or download the Android / iOS smartphone app to access detailed information.

Porsche Drive originally came out back in October 2017 as a pilot program in Atlanta. It’s been greatly expanded significantly since then and is currently available in nine metro areas: Atlanta, Georgia; Houston, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; and in California in Irvine, Los Angeles, Monterey, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose. Porsche promises to roll out the rental and subscription program in additional regions across the US.

Customers get to pick from a rental plan for shorter periods, a single-vehicle subscription for one or three months, or a multi-vehicle subscription for one month at a time. The latter allows clients to swap between models, be them two-door sports cars, four-door models, and SUVs.
