Watch the 2022 Kia EV6 debut livestream right here

Kia will host the full premiere of its EV6 on March 30 at 10 AM CET when we’re finally going to get acquainted with the electric crossover. The first images were published earlier this month, but the South Korean automaker refused to go into any details regarding the technical specifications of its dedicated EV.

While it’s mechanically related to the new Hyundai Ioniq 5, the EV6 has a significantly different exterior design, eschewing the angular appearance for a smoother, more rounded styling. The zero-emissions crossover ushers in a new design language from Kia, complemented by the company’s updated corporate badge.

The interior is also quite different than what you’ll find in the Ioniq 5, which goes to show Hyundai and Kia have put in a lot of time and effort to differentiate their electric SUVs. The same should hold true for the Genesis equivalent debuting before the end of the year, possibly with the GV60 moniker if recent reports are to be believed.

All three ride on the E-GMP platform and if the rumor mill is accurate, the Kia EV6 could be the sportiest of the trio. We’re hearing it will do 0 to 60 mph in about three and a half seconds, presumably for the high-performance GT variant allegedly featuring an impressive (for an electric car) top speed of more than 160 mph.

These will be the most technologically advanced EVs to come from Asia, at least when it comes to charging the battery. The EV6 is expected to need only 18 minutes to “fill up” the battery from 10% to 80% by supporting 350-kW charging while offering more than 300 miles on a full charge in the WLTP cycle. We’ll have to wait for the livestream to get exact numbers, but they’re looking quite promising so far.

The EV6 is only the first of several dedicated electric cars Kia will roll out in the years to come, EV1 through EV9, spanning across segments of the market. It makes sense to start off with an SUV, but fans of other body styles should rest assured as the automaker is looking to cover virtually all the bases in dawn of the electric era.
