2022 Nissan Leaf priced from $27,400, packs more standard kit

Nissan is making some small changes to the Leaf for the 2022 model year to keep the all-electric hatchback relevant in an increasingly competitive segment. Regardless of trim level, the EV now comes equipped as standard with the CHAdeMO Quick Charge Port and a portable 240-volt charging cable. Not only that, but the SV Plus trim level now has the contents of the previously optional Technology Packages, such as ProPILOT Assist and Intelligent Around View Monitor, included as standard.

The base model now starts at $27,400 for the Leaf S with a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor rated at 147 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It’s followed by the better-equipped Leaf SV with the same drivetrain, which is good for 149 miles of estimated range.

Stepping up to the beefier powertrain will increase the starting price to $32,400 for the Leaf S Plus, followed by the Leaf SV Plus at $35,400, and the range-topping Leaf SL Plus at $37,400. These three come with a bigger 62-kWh battery to extend the maximum range between cycles to an estimated 226 miles for the S Plus while the other two can cover 215 miles.

Nissan equips the Plus models with an uprated electric motor producing 214 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. Regardless of the one you go for, all 2022 Leaf EVs benefit from a limited lithium-ion battery warranty for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. There’s also a separate warranty against battery capacity loss during the same interval. The pricing mentioned above does not include the additional $975 destination and handling charges.

The Nissan Leaf is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2021 through a special edition for Europe and the Japanese marque claims it’s the world’s first mass-market EV. During its decade-long life cycle spanning across two generations, the electric hatchback has generated more than 500,000 sales all over the world.
