2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E revealed with increased battery capacity

Ford has introduced the 2022 Mustang Mach-E with a series of important changes, chief of which is the increased battery capacity. The base pack sees its usable capacity increase from the previous 68 kWh to 70 kWh while the extended range pack has been bumped from 88 kWh to 91 kWh. Although the Blue Oval says EPA will not retest the electric SUV with the upgraded batteries, the increased capacity should unlock a few extra miles of range.

As a refresher, the 2021 Mustang Mach-E offered from 211 to 305 miles of range between charges, and these numbers should increase by a few miles as a result of the slightly higher usable battery capacity. It remains to be seen whether this is purely a hardware improvement or Ford can simply push an over-the-air software update for existing vehicles to increase range.

In other news, the 2022 Mustang Mach-E in the California Route 1 trim level – the one with the highest possible range – can now be optioned with all-wheel drive for the first time. In addition, this specification of the electric ‘Stang has a more generous list of standard equipment, which now includes a heated steering wheel as well as heated front seats. As far as the flagship GT is concerned, the tweaks are limited to a black roof offered as standard rather than being a $385 option for the 2021MY.

The color palette has also been refreshed for 2022, with Carbonized Grey being removed from the range while Iced Blue Silver Metallic will be replacing Iconic Silver. Exclusively offered on the GT trim level until now, Cyber Orange and Grabber Blue can now be had for other versions as well. In addition, Ford is launching an Ice White Edition with the model year change.

When it comes to pricing, the entry-level model costs the same as before, $43,995. Ford is increasing the Premium’s starting price to $49,200 – an increase of $500 – and the California Route 1’s sticker to $51,875 – up by $375. And for some good news, the all-wheel-drive-only Mustang Mach-E GT is now significantly cheaper than before as Ford is shaving off $1,005, meaning it kicks off from $59,995. If you want AWD on a lesser trim level, you’ll have to pay an extra $2,700.

Ford is already taking orders for the updated Mustang Mach-E and will start customer deliveries in February, but only for the Select and California Route 1. If you want the Premium or the GT, you’ll have to patiently wait until April.
