Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUV is now made in China

Ford has been making the Mustang Mach-E at its factory in Mexico for over a year but it would be a logistical nightmare to ship the electric SUV all the way to China. For this reason, the Blue Oval has decided to localize production in the People’s Republic at its Chongqing plant where assembly has officially started. The first vehicles will be delivered to customers before the end of the year.

The CN-spec Mustang Mach-E is available in RWD (long range), RWD Premium (long range), RWD (standard range), and GT First Edition specifications. Early adopters are invited to sign their names on the dotted line as Ford is now taking orders, and those who act fast and purchase the zero-emissions SUV before December 31, 2021, will take advantage of several benefits: referral bonus, a retail finance and replacement plan, hassle-free roadside assistance, and most importantly – better vehicle and battery system warranty.

As it’s the case with the global model, the RWD Long Range model is the one you’ll want for extended journeys. Based on the local China light-duty vehicle test cycle (CLTC), the most efficient Mustang Mach-E has been rated at 619 kilometers (385 miles) of range. If maximum performance is what you’re after, the GT has 481 horsepower (359 kilowatts) and 860 Newton-meters (634 pound-feet) of torque, enough for a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) run in 3.65 seconds.

Meanwhile, Ford is rolling out the 2022MY Mustang Mach-E in the United States with a series of changes, the chief of which is the larger battery capacity. The base pack now has a usable capacity of 70 kWh (from 68 kWh) while the extended range pack now offers 91 kWh (from 88 kW). EPA won’t test the electric SUV with the revised battery, but Ford says the new model year will deliver a slightly improved range.

From now on, the California Route 1 trim level will be offered with optional all-wheel drive while the GT will get a standard black roof. A heated steering wheel and heated front seats are now part of the standard equipment across the range, and there are some color changes as Iconic Silver is replacing Iced Blue Silver Metallic and Carbonized Grey is deleted. Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange – two previously GT-only hues – are now available for the other Mustang Mach-E versions.
