Tesla introduced the Model X Refresh in late January but it wasn’t until mid-October when customer deliveries started. We’re strictly talking about the standard model as the Palo Alto electric car manufacturer is only now beginning to ship the hotter Plaid to buyers. As some would say, better late than never, but it will likely take several months until production will be fully ramped up.
The updated Model X has managed to beat the Mercedes EQS SUV to the punch since the German luxury electric SUV won’t arrive until later next year. However, if you order the Plaid today, you’ll have to patiently wait for nearly a year since the website shows an estimated delivery timeframe of October 2022. It will set you back an eye-watering $113,940, and that’s before options. In the meantime, the BMW iX M60 with over 600 horsepower is debuting next week at CES in Las Vegas.
Billed as being the “quickest-accelerating SUV in production today,” the 2022 Tesla Model X Plaid hits 60 mph from a standstill in just two and a half seconds. It will do the quarter-mile in a mind-boggling 9.9 seconds thanks to three electric motors providing a combined output of 1,020 horsepower. With the standard 20-inch wheels, it’s going to cover 335 miles, while upgrading to the larger 22-inch set available for an extra $5,500 will drop the range to 313 miles.
Tesla is selling the Model X Plaid with a choice of five, six, or seven seats, along with the possibility to pick from an all-black, along with optional $2,000 black and white or cream interiors. Those who do a lot of highway driving should find the Full Self-Driving Capability useful, although it does cost a whopping $10,000.
Attached above, an in-depth video shared by one of the early adopters shows what the range-topping Model X version has to offer, now with more tech and performance than ever before. It’s still as practical and spacious as ever, thus making it the ideal all-in-one vehicle.
