Fisker unveiled the production-intent Ocean last November at the Los Angeles Auto Show and now the electric crossover is celebrating its European debut. With no Geneva Motor Show this year, the EV startup has decided to bring its Tesla Model Y rival to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. To be built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria from later this year, the five-seat model aims to deliver the longest range in its segment.

The Ocean will be sold in Sport, Ultra, and Extreme trim levels, plus the One launch edition capped at 5,000 examples. Production is scheduled to commence on November 17 and the launch edition will be prioritized before the regular models arrive in 2023. This special version is based on the range-topping Extreme but with exclusive features.

Fisker still isn’t willing to disclose the battery pack’s capacity, but depending on the trim, we do know the Ocean will deliver from 440 to 630 kilometers in the WLTP cycle and from 250 to 350 miles in the EPA test. However, these are far from being official numbers since they’re only projections made by the company based on internal simulations.

Seven paint choices will be available upon launch, with a further seven to be added to the color palette in 2023. Customers will get to pick from several alloy wheel designs in 20 to 22 inches sizes, along with three themes for the interior where there are optional color packages. Speaking of the cabin, all Fisker Ocean models have a 17.1-inch touchscreen that rotates to offer both portrait and landscape orientations. Some of the models can be fitted with a solar roof for up to 1,500 miles of free range per year.

The base Ocean Sport gets a front-mounted electric motor good for 275 horsepower (205 kilowatts) to enable a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) run in 7.4 seconds. Up next is the Ultra with its added rear motor to give the electric crossover AWD and 540 hp (400 kW) on tap. This will cut the sprint time to 4.2 seconds. The Extreme boosts the output numbers to 550 hp (410 kW) for a sprint in just 3.9 seconds.

As for dimensions, the stylish EV is 4775 mm (188 in) long, 1995 mm (78.5 in) wide, and 1631 mm (64.2 in) tall, with a wheelbase measuring 2921 mm (115 in). It combines a front MacPherson suspension with a multi-link rear and will have a maximum towing capacity of 1,815 kg (4,000 lbs).

Following the Ocean’s rollout, a cheaper Pear electric model is scheduled to arrive in 2024.

Henrik Fisker is a man held in well regard by most BMW enthusiasts, as he penned one of the prettiest Bimmers of all time — the BMW Z8. Fisker also designed the breathtaking Aston Martin DB9, in my eyes one of the best looking machines of any kind ever made. Well, after a bit of a hiatus, Fisker is officially back but this time with an electric SUV that will have pricing to seriously challenge the premium EV competition — the Fisker Ocean.

While the Fisker Ocean was officially announced a couple of years ago, and honestly seemed like a pipe dream that would never come true, it’s officially on the way. Built by Magna Steyr in Austria, the Fisker Ocean will be an EV SUV sized a bit smaller than the BMW iX and will come with four different variants; Fisker Ocean Sport, a long-range Ocean Ultra, a high-performance Ocean Extreme, and a limited-run Ocean One Launch Edition.

The base-spec Fisker Ocean will cost $37,499 in the US (£34,990 in the UK) and will come with 275 horsepower and 250 miles of range. The longer-range Ocean Ultra model will get 350 miles of range and will start at $49,999. However, the Ocean Extreme model will get around 550 horsepower and will start at around $68,999. The Ocean One Launch Edition will also be $68,999 and will come fully loaded with all options, though it likely won’t have the Extreme model’s performance.

It looks great, too. Typical of Fisker, the Ocean is simple, elegant, and sophisticated. It looks sporty but not overly so and, despite being a crossover, seems to be sensibly sized. The cabin is minimalist but very stylish, with interesting materials and a massive central screen that has the ability to rotate from portrait to landscape, depending on the driver’s preference. It has some whiffs of Tesla on the inside, in terms of its design, but looks more interesting and more chic. No surprise from Henrik Fisker.

The Ocean will make its official European debut later this month, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and deliveries will begin later this year. While the Fisker Ocean seemed like a longshot to ever get built when it was first announced, Henrik Fisker has learned several paramount lessons from his previous automotive venture, the Fisker Karma. With those lessons learned, he was able to fix his mistakes with the Ocean and it looks like the world is going to get a very interesting new EV SUV from one of the most talented people in the automotive world.

Fisker unveiled the all-electric Ocean SUV in January 2020 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. However, that was more along the lines of a concept car and now we get to find out we’ll have to wait until November to see the production version at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The reveal was made by Henrik Fisker on Twitter where he used some big words the describe the interior cabin of his upcoming EV.

Per the company’s head honcho, the electric crossover will boast an “absolutely amazing interior,” one that will incorporate “the most amazing center screen and user interface.” However, it’s worth mentioning the Ocean won’t enter production until the final quarter of 2022, which means early adopters are in for a long wait.

Due to be manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr, the Fisker Ocean promises to offer a maximum range of 300 miles and carry a starting price of $37,499 before any applicable EV-related incentives). It’s certainly an attractive price, one that has lured in 17,300 customers who have made paid reservations, on top of 62,000 people who have expressed an interest in buying the electric crossover. Aside from having paid reservations from future individual owners, the firm has taken fleet orders from the likes of Credit Agricole Consumer Finance, Onto, and Viggo.

As a refresher, the Ocean (and its solar roof) will come in a range-topping version featuring an all-wheel-drive system courtesy of dual electric motors delivering a combined output of more than 536 horsepower (400 kilowatts). It will slot above the entry-level 302-hp configuration and both will use an aluminum-intensive platform developed by Magna Steyr.

In order to support the Ocean’s rollout, the company plans to inaugurate six Fisker Brand Experience Centers, with the first ones to be opened early next year in Munich and Los Angeles. The remaining four will be located in London, Miami, Copenhagen, and New York during the latter half of 2022.
