Chrysler teases new model in a long time and it’s fully electric

During the Stellantis EV Day 2021, the fourth-largest car manufacturer teased everything from an electric muscle car to an EV pickup truck. It also signaled Opel’s intentions towards becoming an EV-only brand by 2028 along with the presentation of four dedicated platforms for zero-emissions models. In addition, we might have been given a glimpse at the first new Chrysler model in a long time.

During the livestream, a crossover carrying the famous winged badge made an appearance on stage and was also briefly shown in official footage. Naturally, the mysterious Chrysler was purely electric, as denoted by the charging port positioned on the front fender on the driver’s side. Parent company Stellantis didn’t actually talk about the EV itself at all, but we have an idea as to what it may be.

It would appear that the purely electric crossover is an evolution of the Airflow Vision concept that Chrysler introduced at the 2020 CES. Compared to the showcar from Las Vegas, the new version has proper front and rear doors along with side mirrors and even the orange markers mandatory on US-spec vehicles.

It still might be a concept car or a near-production prototype, but the all-electric crossover sure looks like it’s heading to production sooner or later. Last year’s concept’s interior with its many screens has largely been carried over onto this more evolved EV, complete with a pair of displays for the rear-seat entertainment system.

The unknown Chrysler model was showcased while the company’s head of design Ralph Gilles was detailing the STLA Large architecture Stellantis is currently preparing. It will underpin a total of eight purely electric models coming out within the next three to five years, and it would appear one of them will be badged as a Chrysler.

The platform is in the works and aims to deliver as much as 800 kilometers (500 miles) of range, although it’s unclear on which test cycle (WLTP or EPA). So far, the Chrysler EV looks genuinely promising, and we are not at all surprised it takes the shape of a crossover considering current customer trends.
