2023 Volkswagen ID. Buzz teased on video in production form

2022 is shaping to be an exciting year for EV aficionados as it won’t be too long before Volkswagen will (finally!) take the wraps off the ID. Buzz in production guise. To ease the wait, VW took to Twitter to share a 17-second video of the zero-emissions minivan wearing the same colorful disguise as it did when it was originally teased during the ID.5’s premiere last month.

The boxy van is also showing its production-ready headlights with elongated daytime running lights extending towards the center where they’re bisected by the VW badge. This “eyebrow” look of the headlights is becoming the norm among vehicles from Wolfsburg that don’t have a combustion engine, presumably as a way to be easily identified as EVs.

Speaking of lighting, the door handles are also illuminated and we’re expecting some versions of the ID. Buzz to have a light-up VW logo as well. You can easily see the resemblances with the namesake concept unveiled in January 2017 at NAIAS in Detroit, but as it’s usually the case, the final version won’t look as sleek as the showcar before it.

Featured in this brief teaser video appears to be the passenger version, but VW Commercial Vehicles has already confirmed plans for a cargo model as well as an ID. California camper and an autonomous derivative due in 2025. Much like the other ID. models, the hotly anticipated Buzz will ride on the MEB platform and is expected to come with a choice between a single- or dual-motor setup with rear- or all-wheel drive, respectively.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz production version teaser

Coming to the United States, the 2023 VW ID. Buzz will be assembled in Hannover, Germany and should offer two wheelbase options for the passenger-oriented model. A highly advanced autonomous driving system is on the menu, while the top-spec model should have somewhere in the region of 300 horsepower courtesy of dual electric motors granting AWD.

We should learn more about the microbus reborn for the electric era in the first quarter of 2022.
