If you’re patiently waiting for the much-hyped Cybertruck, we may have some bad news to share provided a report published by Reuters is accurate. Citing an undisclosed source from within the company, the reputable news agency claims the electric pickup has been delayed yet again. Elon Musk said a while ago production would start in late 2022, but now we’re hearing it might have been pushed back.

According to Reuters, the Cybertruck won’t hit the assembly line until towards the end of Q1 2023, so roughly around the end of April next year. Some of you will recall Tesla’s head honcho previously mentioned the plan is to kick off customer deliveries before the end of 2022, but it now appears that will no longer be the case.

As to what has possibly caused this new delay, Reuters says the issue stems from changes to the functions and features of the electric pickup. These modifications are apparently necessary to release a “compelling product” and better face newcomers such as the GMC Hummer EV and the Rivian R1T. In addition, Ford is launching the F-150 Lightning while Chevrolet recently unveiled the Silverado EV. GMC is working on its own zero-emission truck, so it looks like the battle in the EV pickup segment is heating up.

The new delay might explain why Tesla has decided to remove most pricing details from the Cybertruck’s page on the official website where most of the technical specifications have been removed. We are hoping Elon Musk will shed light on the vehicle’s status as he has promised to attend the 2021 Q4 earnings call on January 26 to talk about the product roadmap.

Reuters has contacted Tesla to learn whether the “person familiar with the matter” they’re citing is telling the truth, but the company has yet to issue an official response.

Even though the Cybertruck has been repeatedly delayed and won’t enter production until the end of 2022, every now and then, Tesla keeps sharing tidbits about the ultra-angular EV. In a bid to keep the GMC Hummer EV competitor in the headlines, Elon Musk strategically reveals details about one of the most controversial vehicles we’ve seen in years. The latest topic? Paint.

Better said, the lack of any paint whatsoever as Tesla’s head honcho has announced the 2023 Cybertruck will be sold exclusively with a bare body. Paraphrasing automotive icon Henry Ford, the 50-year-old executive has declared the “Tesla Cybertruck can come in any color as long as it’s nothing.” However, he did hint the edgy pickup could be offered later in its life cycle with a body wrap. Initially, the “Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin” will not have a drop of paint or an inch of wrap on it.

It goes without saying aftermarket companies will be eager to offer body wraps from day one to capitalize on the immense popularity of the 2023 Cybertruck. It is believed roughly 1.3 million reservations have been made since the prototype was unveiled a little over two years ago. With a fully exposed stainless-steel body, the hotly anticipated electric pickup will look quite imposing on the road. That’s especially true since prototypes have been spotted featuring three amber lights, which are mandatory in the United States for vehicles wider than 80 inches (2.03 meters) to meet DOT regulations.

The lack of paint will help Tesla shave off some weight, although it’s going to be a drop in the bucket given the sheer size and heft of the Cybertruck. Based on Tesla’s California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) filing, its new EV will be classified as a “medium-duty truck.” It effectively means it will weigh anywhere between 8,500 to 10,000 pounds (3,855 to 4,535 kilograms). When it was unveiled in November 2019, the wild utilitarian vehicle was 231.7 inches (5.88 meters) long, 79.8 inches wide (2.02 meters), and 75 inches (1.9 meters) tall – making it big enough to accommodate six adults.

The production version will be slightly different in terms of appearance and proportions and won’t have the massive windscreen wiper recently noticed on a prototype undergoing testing. Elon Musk has previously announced Tesla will disclose additional details about the road-going Cybertruck in January 2022 during the company’s next earnings call. It remains to be seen whether the production-ready version will be unveiled next month.

It was only a few days ago when Elon Musk announced the production-ready Cybertruck would retain the prototype’s yoke steering wheel and now Tesla’s head honcho has shared additional juicy details on social media. The all-electric pickup will initially come only in the quad-motor configuration as production is going to kick off only with the range-topping model.

Interestingly, Musk also disclosed another tidbit by saying the much-hyped Cybertruck will drive diagonally like a crab thanks to the implementation of a sophisticated four-wheel steering system. If that sounds a bit familiar, GMC is developing a similar Crab Mode for its Hummer EV. The company’s boss explained on Twitter the flagship variant of the utilitarian EV is going to boast “independent, ultra-fast response torque control of each wheel.”

The announcement regarding a quad-motor setup comes as a surprise considering Tesla previously announced only single-, dual-, and tri-motor configurations. To be built at the Gigafactory Texas, rumor has it the Cybertruck base model might not come anymore with just one electric motor as the entry-level could already have a pair of e-motors.

These planned changes to the lineup are probably the reason why Tesla has essentially wiped out the configurator options for the Cybertruck on the company’s website. Keep in mind we are still about a year away from the moment production will finally commence. If assembly will indeed start in December 2022, the prototype will have been four years old by then.

The zero-emissions pickup has amassed no fewer than 1.2 million reservations thus far, which means lots of people are patiently waiting for the long-promised electric truck. The competition is not wasting time considering not just the Hummer, but also the Rivian R1T and the Ford F-150 Lightning. In addition, Chevrolet will unveil the Silverado EV at the beginning of next year at CES in Las Vegas.

Even though it has been delayed until 2022, the Cybertruck remains one of the most highly anticipated electric vehicles due to its unusually angular design and impressive technical specifications. As already seen on the concept car unveiled back in 2019, the yoke steering wheel will be installed on the production model to mirror the latest Model S Plaid.

The company’s head honcho Elon Musk took to Twitter to confirm the yoke will remain in the road-going Cybertruck coming next year. He went as far as to say the zero-emissions ute is “intentionally an insane technology bandwagon” and that it’s going to “reach far into a post-apocalyptic future and bring the technology to now.”

The adoption of a yoke steering wheel will certainly pose a concern since many Model S Plaid owners have complained it makes the electric sedan difficult to maneuver at slower speeds. While progressive steering is in the works, Musk has previously stated it will take a few years until it’ll be ready to reach production.

We will admit the yoke looks cool and that there’s a specific segment of the market that wants it, but perhaps it would be better for Tesla to offer an alternative by selling the Model S Plaid and the upcoming Cybertruck with a conventional steering wheel. Giving customers the option to pick from the two could attract more customers since some will avoid buying either of the two EVs because of the yoke-only configuration.

There is a glimmer of hope the yoke will be better in the pickup than the sedan as Elon Musk claims the Cybertruck is set to become a “technology bandwagon.” It remains to be seen whether that extends to how the driver controls the vehicle when traveling at lower speeds.

There’s a lot riding on the Cybertruck considering Tesla has more than 1.2 million reservations, amounting to over $80 billion in value. That’s despite the fact the concept is already two years old and we still don’t have a firm date as to when series production will commence. The latest intel suggests assembly will not kick off until towards the end of 2022.

Tesla is not your typical car company as it rarely advertises its future products through teaser videos. In a rare marketing move, a new clip shows the hotly anticipated Cybertruck tackling both urban and rural environments. If you’re thinking the quality of the footage could be a bit better, you are not alone. There is a good explanation as the video was not published directly by the Palo Alto electric car manufacturer.

Instead, EV promoter Harsimran Bansal stumbled upon the video being played on a TV while visiting one of Tesla’s showrooms. He noticed the footage was new, deciding to act fast by firing up the camera on his smartphone to record the clip and share it with everyone on social media. Naturally, the one-minute video is already viral on Twitter since there’s still a lot of hype surrounding the Cybertruck despite being pushed back.

Eagle-eyed readers will notice the electric pickup is also being featured on a worksite, not just any worksite, but the Giga Texas factory where the Cybertruck will be manufactured. As you may recall, Tesla has delayed the start of assembly to late 2022, which means production is unlikely to fully ramp up until 2023. More than one million people have made reservations, and suffice it to say, they’re in for a long wait.

Curiously, Tesla updated the official product page for the Cybertruck earlier this month to remove most of the technical specifications, only keeping the ones for the flagship version with three electric motors. Not only that, pricing details for all the trim levels have vanished. As always, the company has not issued an official explanation, so people are already speculating changes to the specs and prices are planned compared to what was announced in November 2019 when the truck was originally unveiled.

Meanwhile, Tesla has announced it has assembled several Alpha prototypes for testing purposes. Speaking of prototypes, the one shown here seems to be virtually identical to the original electric truck introduced a couple of years ago. The production version will look slightly different, with one of the changes being the addition of side mirrors. On a related note, CEO Elon Musk has said the final Cybertruck will also feature all-wheel steering to provide a lower turning circle and improve stability during high-speed cornering.

This is all you will be finding on the official product page for the Cybertruck as Tesla has quietly updated its website to remove most details regarding pricing and technical specifications. All that’s left is a notice about production starting in 2022 along with the possibility of making a fully refundable $100 deposit to get your name on the waiting list.

As with the multiple website updates made so far this year to reflect price bumps for basically all of its cars that are in production, Tesla has not issued an explanation as to why the Cybertruck’s page has been greatly simplified. As a refresher, when the electric pickup truck was originally unveiled back in 2019, it had the following rather juicy numbers:

Priced at $39,900, the base single motor version with rear-wheel drive promised more than 250 miles of range, a 0 to 60 mph sprint in six and a half seconds, and a maximum speed of 110 mph.

Up next was the midlevel $49,900 dual-motor AWD Cybertruck with 300+ miles of range, and a 4.5-second sprint en route to a top speed of 120 mph.

Images Courtesy of Tesla, Inc

Then there was the flagship Tri-Motor AWD priced at $69,900, touted as having more than 500 miles of range and a whopping 2.9-second sprint, plus a maximum velocity of 130 mph.

The updated page now only mentions some of the high-end specs, such as the 0 to 60 mph run achieved in “as little as 2.9 seconds” and a maximum towing capacity of more than 14,000 pounds. While Tesla used to say 500+ miles of range, the plus at the end has been now removed, so the Cybertruck is officially claimed to do “up to 500 miles” between charges.

The mysterious change on the vehicle’s official product page comes only about a month or so after Tesla’s announcement regarding a delay in the start of production to 2022. Whether the updated website signals the company’s intentions of modifying specs and pricing is unclear at this point, but it is possible. However, we’re hoping those who have put down a deposit will be getting what they’ve been promised.

Elon Musk has confirmed today that the Tesla Cybertruck was pushed to late 2022. When Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck back in 2019, Tesla said that the electric pickup truck would make it to market by the end of 2021. Musk allegedly said that ramp-up of the truck will be very difficult due to plethora of new technology. Musk had already hinted in a July call that the Model Y “obviously does take priority over the Cybertruck.” “It will be a special project. Like a glitch in the Matrix. Like if Neo had a car”, said Musk about the Cybertruck.

Tesla has quietly updated the ordering page for the Cybertruck to reflect the start of production has been pushed back to 2022. Whether you select the Single Motor RWD, Dual Motor AWD, or the Tri Motor AWD version.

Under its bulletproof skin is said to be some impressive specs. It will have three different powertrains, with one, two and three electric motors. It’s said to have anywhere between 250-500 miles of range, depending on spec, and enough power in the three-motor spec to get from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds. Musk claims the tri-motor Tesla Cybertruck can tow 14,000 pounds yet out-handle a Porsche 911. All of that sounds very expensive and it likely will be in the end. It’s said the entry-level Tesla Cybertruck will start at $39,900.

The fact Tesla has pushed back the release of the Cybetruck should not come as a big surprise seeing as how the company is notoriously known for not living up to its promises in regards to new model launches. The Model S Refresh was supposed to hit the market in February, but that didn’t happen until June. Not only that, but to our knowledge, the Model X Refresh still hasn’t reached customers, despite being unveiled at the beginning of the year together with the sedan.

It was in late January this year when Tesla CEO Elon Musk admitted the company would have to get “lucky” to kick off deliveries of the Cybertruck before the end of the year. When it published the financial results for Q2 2021 last month, the Palo Alto-based EV manufacturer insisted production would start towards the end of the year. As it turns out, that’s no longer the case. Surprise, surprise.

Tesla has quietly updated the ordering page for the Cybertruck to reflect the start of production has been pushed back to 2022. Whether you select the Single Motor RWD, Dual Motor AWD, or the Tri Motor AWD version, all of them now say “production nears in 2022.” That’s still a bit vague since we don’t know which month Tesla is referring to, so it could be January in a best-case scenario or one of the final months of the year.

Interestingly, Elon Musk was quoted saying it would “literally cost one million dollars apiece” to manufacture the Cybertruck today. The statement was made during the previous last earnings call, citing the incapacity to build enough 4680 battery cells. As some of you will recall, the fully electric pickup has allegedly racked up more than one million reservations, although it remains to be seen how many will be converted to actual sales given the vehicle’s delay.

The fact Tesla has pushed back the release of the Cybetruck should not come as a big surprise seeing as how the company is notoriously known for not living up to its promises in regards to new model launches. It was November 2019 when Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck, and even though the concept is approaching its second anniversary, the production version has yet to be revealed. Head honcho Elon Musk has said it will be out by the end of the year, but mass production won’t kick off until 2022. In an update posted on Twitter about the status of the much-hyped electric pickup, the 50-year-old businessman revealed a couple of tidbits.

For starters, the concept’s radical look will be essentially carried over for the production version: “Friday afternoons are usually Tesla design studio time. Cybertruck will be almost exactly what was shown.” The Palo Alto-based EV company had planned to show a revised version of the 2019 concept before the start of production, but with the road-going model now said to look the same, that might not happen anymore.

Elon Musk went on to say the production-ready Cybertruck will employ all-wheel steering: “We’re adding rear-wheel steering, so it can do tight turns and maneuver with high agility.” It’s likely a direct response to the CrabWalk system developed by General Motors for the upcoming GMC Hummer EV.

Bear in mind four-wheel steering is far from being cutting-edge tech as the Honda Prelude had it back in the 1980s. 4WS has evolved tremendously since then, with the Hummer’s system able to steer the front and rear wheels in unison at up to 10 degrees. The latest-generation Mercedes S-Class can also turn the rear wheels up to 10 degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels.

Some would argue four-wheel steering is a gimmick, but when a vehicle is as large as a GMC Hummer EV or a Tesla Cybertruck, maneuvering these mastodonts on tight city streets can be quite difficult. The feature could also prove to be useful in an off-road environment or getting in and out of a parking spot, so it does have a legitimate application in real-life scenarios.

It was way back in November 2019 when Tesla made a big splash with the reveal of its highly controversial Cybertruck. The all-electric utilitarian vehicle was shown as a concept, with Elon Musk later on announcing the production model would go through some changes. Fast forward to today, the company’s head honcho has provided a clue about one of the modifications planned for the road-going version.

When asked by a Tesla fan to provide a tease for the final Cybertruck design, Musk hinted the final variant will eschew the concept’s door handles. If you recall, the show truck was presented with the same door handle used in the original Model S. However, it now appears a radical change will be made for the vehicle customers will actually get.

The updated Cybertruck will be officially revealed in the second quarter of the year, but even Tesla has admitted it will have to get “lucky” to kick off deliveries before the end of the year. Even if that will happen, only a handful of vehicles will be completed by late 2021, meaning mass production is going to start in 2022.

There had been plans to make the Cybertruck smaller than the concept, but Musk had a change of heart in May 2020 during a design review. Some styling changes are planned for the final model, which is allegedly going to have slightly different dimensions. Little else is known about the road-going model, although the 49-year-old entrepreneur did say owners will be able to power a camper through the vehicle’s large battery pack.

Changes to the self-leveling air suspension are planned as the vehicle “needs to kick butt in Baja,” according to Musk. We also know there will be a Cyberquad serving as an electric ATV companion offered as an option, but there are still many pieces of the puzzle missing. Hopefully, Tesla will have answers to most questions in Q2 2021 when the revised Cybertruck will be unveiled.
