Stellantis: EVs To Account For 100% Sales In Europe, 50% In US By 2030

Stellantis put on quite a show today during its conference organized to present an ambitious long-term strategy. Aside from previewing Jeep’s first-ever EV and the Ram 1500 BEV, the automotive conglomerate made some big promises. It aims to sell only electric cars in Europe by the end of the decade when it estimates EVs will account for half of its sales in the United States.

It’s important to mention the 100% goal in Europe refers strictly to passenger cars while the 50% target for the US includes both passenger cars and trucks. To make it happen, more than 75 battery-powered models will be coming out between now and 2030 when Stellantis believes annual EV sales will hit five million vehicles.

On its road to becoming carbon net-zero by 2038, the plan is to halve emissions by 2030. These objectives are all included in the Dare Forward 2030 agenda, which calls for more than 25 BEVs coming to the United States alone. Stellantis also wants to boost battery production capacity by 140 GWh to around 400 GWh and also invest in hydrogen technology for large vans coming in 2024. A year later, a fuel cell commercial vehicle will be launched in the US. Further down the line, heavy-duty trucks powered by hydrogen are planned.

The backbone of Stellantis’ EV onslaught will be four dedicated platforms: STLA Small, STLA Medium, STLA Large, and STLA Frame. The latter will serve as the foundation for the aforementioned Ram 1500, which will take batteries larger than 200 kWh. There will also be performance electric cars, kicking this off with a Dodge EV muscle car scheduled to go on sale in 2024. Before that happens, a concept will be unveiled later this year.

Plug-in hybrids are also important for Stellantis, and a relevant example is the Alfa Romeo Tonale unveiled earlier this year. It will be followed by an equivalent Dodge, possibly called Hornet, in the following months.
