General Motors has reached an important milestone on the long road to a fully electric lineup by kicking off customer deliveries of the hotly anticipated Hummer EV. The zero-emissions truck was originally unveiled back in October 2020 and has now entered series production at GM’s Factory Zero plant in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan.

The first available version of the much-hyped electric pickup is the fully loaded Edition 1 priced at $112,595. All are finished in white with a Lunar Horizon interior cabin and equipped with the Extreme Off-Road Package. The latter includes massive 35-inch tires, the Watts to Freedom launch mode, all-wheel steering (with Crab Walk), three removable transparent roof panels, and the Super Cruise driver assistance system as standard.

Equipped with three electric motors, the Hummer EV Edition 1 offers a massive 1,000 horsepower (746 kilowatts) for a 0 to 60 mph in only three seconds flat, which is mighty impressive given the vehicle’s size and especially its heft of 9,046 pounds (4,103 kilograms). It uses the Ultium platform and aims to cover a GM-estimated 329 miles of range thanks to a gigantic 200-kWh battery pack.

With the launch edition long being sold out, it means you will have to patiently wait for subsequent trim levels to go on sale. The first to arrive will be the $99,995 EV3X next fall with a tri-motor setup producing 830 hp or an optional 1,000 hp. At an additional cost, the standard range of 300 miles can be bumped to 350 miles, while the Extreme Off-Road Package and fancy removable roof are also on the options list.

The $89,995 EV2X model will follow in spring 2023 with dual motors for 625 hp and 300 miles of range. Even this lesser trim gets adaptive air suspension, Crab Walk, and four-wheel steering as standard. The Extreme Off-Road Package and Transparent Sky Panels cost extra.

Ultimately, the base $79,995 EV2 is due in spring 2024 with the same 625 hp but only 250 miles of range, although you can upgrade to obtain an additional 50 miles and the 800-Volt DC Fast Charging that comes as standard on the upper trim levels. It lacks the four-wheel steering and Crab Walk features altogether, but at least you can option the entry-level trim with the Transparent Sky Panels.

GMC will be kicking off customer deliveries of the Hummer EV pickup truck this fall with the fully loaded Edition 1 and is expected to beat the Tesla Cybertruck to the market. Until that happens, prototypes are being tested in various parts of the United States to iron out all the kinks before series production starts in a few months.

Fleets of prototypes have been caught in recent days, one in Salt Lake City and the other in Las Vegas. As some of you will recall, when the Hummer EV pickup truck was first shown to automotive media, it was far from being a fully functional prototype. The latest footage goes to show GMC has made great progress in the vehicle’s development and is testing the zero-emissions trucks out in the real world.

GMC previously released footage of prototypes undergoing winter testing in Michigan at General Motors’ Milford Proving Ground and the latest videos show the trucks are being evaluated in different environments. Far from being confirmed, but a new report indicates there is a dozen of working prototypes currently being tested across the US. If that’s accurate, we can actually see most of them in these two videos depicting stationary pickups taking a break between two testing sessions.

It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume all of these prototypes feature a tri-motor setup considering the lesser dual-motor model won’t be going on sale until spring 2023 when the EV 2X will be launched at $89,995, with a cheaper entry-level EV 2 joining the lineup in spring 2024 carrying a $79,995 sticker. Before that happens, the sold-out Edition 1 priced at $112,595 will be in the hands of early adopters this fall. Come fall next year, the tri-motor $99,995 EV 3X will be launched.

Production will take place at GM’s Factory Zero facility in Michigan where the GMC Hummer EV SUV will also be made, along with an electric Chevrolet Silverado.

As promised, GMC has released additional details about the 2024 Hummer EV SUV it unveiled over the weekend. The highlight is represented by what the company refers to as a Power Station generator, which gives the electric SUV the ability to jump charge another EV at 240v/25A/6kW as well as power external equipment at 120v/25A/3kW.

The Ford F-150 Hybrid has a similar feature, with the obvious difference between the two that the truck from the Blue Oval has a gasoline engine. The Power Station generator should prove to be a useful tool when going out camping and in other situations where its own power bank could come in handy to power additional devices you might need, perhaps at a work site or in a remote area.

Another ace up the Hummer EV SUV’s sleeve is the off-road trail mapping through the updated myGMC app for smartphones. It helps the driver better plan an off-road driving adventure by showing the available charging locations in that area along with the distances the vehicle has to cover to access them.

Routes and plans can be download to the owner’s phone from the app and then showcased on the large 13.4-inch touchscreen of the infotainment system. The driver also has access to real-time energy consumption with a community-based energy forecast, which should minimize range anxiety and let you enjoy the adventure.

Also worth noting is the significantly shorter wheelbase of the SUV compared to the truck as the distance between the axles is nearly nine inches shorter, thus offering the SUV better maneuverability.  The turning circle when equipped with the CrabWalk four-wheel steering system is 35.4 feet (10.8 meters) whereas the pickup truck needs 37.1 feet (11.3 inches). GMC is proud to say the Hummer EV SUV has a tighter turning circle than the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Go for the SUV variant and you’ll take advantage of better departure and breakover angles than the truck, making it more capable while tacking an off-road course than the already competent truck.

The major downside is represented by the extended time people will have to patiently wait for the SUV. While the pickup goes on sale this fall, the GMC Hummer EV SUV won’t enter production until early 2023 for the $110,595 Edition 1, with the lesser versions taking even longer to hit the market.

GMC brought back the Hummer with much fanfare in October 2020 when it unveiled an all-electric pickup. The truck is now getting an SUV counterpart based on the same Ultium platform developed by General Motors. However, it’s worth noting right from the start that it won’t be available until the 2024 model year, with production beginning early 2023 for select trim levels.

It should be well worth the wait as the GMC Hummer EV SUV largely carries over the capabilities of its pickup sibling, though it can’t quite fully match them. Go for the tri-motor version and the electric sports utility vehicle will offer 830 horsepower and more than 300 miles of range. There’s an Extreme Off-Road Package lowering the range by about 20 miles, but you get so much more in return.

The optional kit adds 18-inch wheels with 35-inch tires, underbody plating, front eLocker, and virtual rear lockers. In addition, the package encompasses heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts, rock sliders, and even an underbody camera. These goodies are on top of the already known four-wheel steering (CrabWalk) that debuted on the pickup, along with an Extract Mode that lifts the vehicle by tweaking the air suspension.

As far as pricing is concerned, the most expensive of the bunch is the Edition 1 fitted with the Extreme Off-Road Package. It costs $110,595 and will be available in early 2023 along with the Edition 1 without the optional kit, lowering the price by $5,000. Going on sale later that spring is the EV 3X with the same tri-motor setup and range but less equipment for a price tag from $99,995.

Also available in spring 2023 will be the EV 2X, equipped with two electric motors for a combined output of 625 horsepower and more than 300 miles of range for a starting price of $89,995. Both the EV 2X and EV 3X trim levels will be offered with the optional Extreme Off-Road Package.

Arriving in spring 2024, the entry-level, dual-motor EV 2 is going to set you back $79,995 and is going to offer 625 hp and 250+ miles of range. It will be the only version of the Hummer EV SUV with a 400-volt electrical system as standard as all the others are going to feature 800v supporting charging at up to 300 kW. It will be available at an additional cost on this base trim, along with a bigger battery pack (20 modules instead of 16) to increase the range to more than 300 miles. Sadly, the base trim level can’t be combined with the Extreme Off-Road Package.

Much like it’s the case with the pickup, the SUV version has been engineered with a Watts to Freedom system, essentially a launch control to achieve that impressive 3.5-second sprint time. Also inherited from the truck will be the Infinity Roof, which is marketing speak for having removable panels to turn the Hummer SUV into a convertible.

The exterior design has been largely carried over from the pickup, but with an enclosed rear section and a fullsize spare wheel mounted on the tailgate. The Edition 1 stands out with its exclusive 22-inch wheels, assist steps, and floor liners. The cabin can seat up to five people and features the same 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster joined by a 13.4-inch touchscreen for the infotainment as seen in the truck.

Following today’s reveal, GMC says additional details about the 2024 Hummer EV SUV will be released on Monday, April 5, when we’re hoping more images will be published.

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV SUV was originally intended to debut back in February, but its official premiere has been pushed back a bit. We are only a few days away from its official unveiling, so to ease the wait, the first of several teaser videos has been released. It’s not showing much, but it is enough to catch a glimpse of what we believe are removable roof panels à la Ford Bronco.

That wouldn’t exactly be a surprise considering the Hummer EV truck can also be turned into a convertible by taking off the roof panels. It’s called the “Infiniti Roof” on the pickup version and has three transparent panels that can be taken out and stored in the front trunk. There’s a good chance it will be standard on some versions – such as the fully loaded Edition 1 – while on the lesser ones it will cost extra.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xewGnTxQokY

Logic tells us the SUV will echo the pickup in terms of technical specifications since it will largely be the same vehicle. If that’s correct, expect the range-topping model to pack no fewer than three electric motors for a GM-estimated combined output of 1,000 horsepower. Slotting below should be the EV3X with three motors and a lower 800-hp output.

Moving down the lineup, the Hummer EV truck can also be had in the EV2X specification with a pair of electric motors and 625 horsepower, while the base EV2 has the same power but less range. Speaking of which, GMC has said the reborn Hummer will offer between 250 and 350 miles of range thanks to the Ultium battery pack.

Availability could be limited at first considering GMC will have the pickup on sale this fall only in the $112,595 Edition 1 flavor. It won’t be until fall 2022 when the EV3X will be launched, followed in spring 2023 by the $89,995 EV2X, and eventually, the $79,995 EV2 from spring 2024. Pricing and availability for the new SUV version should be quite similar.

The truck’s neat features should be carried over to the SUV as well, so an adaptive air suspension is likely on the agenda, along with the CrabWalk four-wheel steering for better maneuverability at low speeds. From Super Cruise and a rear-mounted spare wheel to a Watts to Freedom drive mode and an Extreme Off-Road Package, the electric SUV should be jam-packed with General Motors’ latest tech.

Even though it will be large and quite heavy, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV SUV will still offer supercar-like acceleration. The most powerful pickup version of the bunch promises to do 0 to 60 mph in approximately three seconds, so the SUV should have similar if not identical performance. The same holds true for recharging the battery, meaning 10 minutes of charge at 350 kW should be enough for 100 miles of range.

All the juicy details will be disclosed on April 3 when GMC will officially introduce the electric Hummer as an SUV and will start accepting orders. The aforementioned First Edition should be the first to go on sale, likely this fall together with the pickup.

General Motors hired LeBron James to serve as the main celebrity ambassador for the GMC Hummer EV, originally starring in last year’s Super Bowl ad. The 36-year-old basketball player was given the opportunity to get up close and personal with the static model, so unfortunately there’s no driving footage available in the video below. It’s worth mentioning several YouTubers have already checked out the very same static model, and it looks like it was LeBron’s turn to do a walkaround video.

It goes without saying he’s quite impressed by the GMC Hummer EV, even though the vehicle we’re seeing is far from being the actual production model. The Ohio-born basketball player goes through some of the electric truck’s highlights, including the Crab Mode (four-wheel steering) and the 0 to 60 mph acceleration in three seconds flat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iu6NfYyJhKc

It doesn’t come as a surprise LeBron suggests he’s going to get the “world’s first all-electric supertruck” as it has been described by GMC. It would make sense for the LA Lakers player to go for the Edition 1 with all the bells and whistles, which carries a steep asking price of $112,595. In exchange, buyers will be rewarded with a tri-motor setup with 1,000 horsepower and a mountain-moving amount of torque.

The Hummer EV pickup truck will be followed by an SUV sibling we’re expecting to see very soon, possibly with LeBron once again helping GMC to promote the product. It would make sense to at least catch a glimpse of the Hummer SUV during Super Bowl LV scheduled to take place on February 7 unless there will be a change of plan due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The video tour was published on his son’s YouTube account, Bronny LIVE, and shot in a smartphone-friendly vertical format. The 2022 Hummer EV certainly looks the part, especially with the roof off and in this fully loaded specification. Meanwhile, GMC has kicked off winter testing to get everything ready for when the Edition 1 arrives this fall.

Come fall 2022, the Edition 1 will be followed by the $99,995 EV3X, with a two-motor $89,995 EV2X due in spring 2023 and a base $79,995 EV2 programmed for spring 2024. Reservations for the aforementioned Edition 1 are already full, but GMC has hinted it might extend production to meet the strong demand.

The Audi e-tron has a surprising amount of competition, as the mid-size electric SUV segment is a relatively hot one. Most of its competition comes from premium brands; Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Tesla. However, there’s a new all-electric competitor that doesn’t come from a premium brand. In fact, it comes from an extremely unexpected brand — GMC — and it brings back an iconic name. It’s the Hummer EV.

For the 2021 model year, GMC is bringing the Hummer back but it’s unlike any Hummer that’s ever been before. Not only is it entirely electric but it’s also not a military-style vehicle. Admittedly, neither was the Hummer H2, which was just a Tahoe in fake combat boots, but the original Hummer was a proper military truck turned road-ready. This is not that. This is purely an all-electric passenger vehicle but it’s one that looks extremely promising.

The 2022 GMC HUMMER EV is a first-of-its kind supertruck developed to forge new paths with zero emissions.

Powering the Hummer EV is a trio of electric motors; two at the rear axle and one at the front; which combine to make 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft of wheel torque (GMC claims 11,500 lb-ft but Engineering Explained did the math to learn that figure is not wheel torque). All of that power allows the electric Hummer to get from 0-60 mph in around three seconds, according to GMC.

More important than 0-60 mph times, the Hummer EV is designed to be an extremely capable off-roader. Through the use of its three electric motors, it can “lock” the “differentials”. Of course, it actually doesn’t have any locking differentials but it can real-time torque-vector using its electric motors. With two electric motors out back, it can effectively “lock” the rear axle by applying an exactly equal amount of torque to each rear wheel. It can also adjust to wheelspin and apply the exact amount of torque necessary to either rear wheel to get the car out of a jam.

The most talked about feature for the Hummer EV is its Crab Walk mode, in which the rear-wheel steering can actually position the rear wheels the same as the front wheels at slow speeds. That allows it to sort of shimmy sideways, like a crab, to get it through tricky situations.

The 2022 GMC HUMMER EV is a first-of-its kind supertruck developed to forge new paths with zero emissions.

Another great new feature of the Hummer EV is its ability to remove its four separate roof panels. That allows for some open-top off-roading and seems like an extremely attractive feature.

At launch, the battery of the Hummer EV will be capable of 350 miles of range, while also having 800-volt charging capabilites and the ability to charge at speeds of 350 kW. That would let it charge 100 miles in ten minutes. Though, 350 kW charging stations are limited at best.

It all sounds like a compelling package, wrapped in a body that reminds me of the old Lamborghini LM002 in the best of ways. The only real issue is its price. To start, the Hummer EV will cost $112,595 which is nearly $40,000 more than the Audi e-tron. Admittedly, it has far more range and far more power, along with the removable roof, crab mode and three electric motors. So it’s likely worth a six-figure price tag but it’s still a huge amount.

More, less expensive models will come in the future, with the cheapest one starting at $79,995, putting it squarely in the range of the e-tron. That’s going to be trouble for Audi. The Hummer EV, even a lesser model with less power and range, will likely be more attractive to a lot of American buyers than the e-tron. Not only does it have more of a novelty for being a Hummer but it looks great, has a cool cabin, a removable roof and genuine off-road cred.

If I’m Audi, I’m looking at the Hummer EV nervously. Just like the Audi RS6 Avant, with its high price tag, sold hot right out of the gate because if its hype, the same is going to happen with the Hummer. So Audi, along with the rest of the industry, should take notice.

Earlier today, the reservations for the $112,595 Hummer EV Edition 1- which will go sale in late 2022 – filled in just 10 minutes. So clearly, the first-ever GMC electric vehicle is shaping up to be a great seller for the brand. The GMC HUMMER EV is designed to be the ultimate off-road EV supertruck, with all-new features developed to challenge tough obstacles and terrain.

Design wise, the Hummer EV stays true to its heritage, so even though is sleeker than the previous models, it’s still easily recognizable. The EV supertruck is getting H-shaped headlights, paired with LED light bars. The wide fenders can accommodate tires as large as 37 inches, thanks to the flared body design.

The 2022 GMC HUMMER EV is designed to be an off-road beast, with all-new features developed to conquer virtually any obstacle or terrain.

In the back, the cargo box is accessed via a MultiPro tailgate like the one found on the GMC Sierra. Furthermore, the GMC Hummer EV has a fixed rear bulkhead.  A skid plate will protect the floor-mounted battery packs even going off-road. All the Hummer EV models come with the Infinity Roof’s removable roof panels.

GMC has revamped the interior of the Hummer by giving two massive screens: a13.4-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Off-road widgets will display vehicle functions and terrain status through the infotainment and driver information screens. Examples include torque output, differential locker engagement, tire pressure, pitch and roll angles (including maximum values), a drift gauge (with maximum values), friction circle, torque vectoring and more.

The 2022 GMC HUMMER EV’s design visually communicates extreme capability, reinforced with rugged architectural details that are delivered with a premium, well-executed and appointed interior.
