Lincoln announced plans to dip its toes into the EV segment in June last year by releasing these teaser images. The first production model without a combustion engine from Ford’s luxury division will be revealed very soon, according to a statement made by Lincoln’s North America director Michael Sprague. As a refresher, the zero-emissions Aviator has been pushed back by 18 months to prioritize a boost in the production of the Mustang Mach-E.

A new report from Reuters cites three people familiar with Lincoln’s electric agenda. A veritable SUV assault is planned between now and the end of 2026 as no fewer than five high-riding EVs will be out in the next four years. Aside from the Aviator, other purely electric models on the agenda include the Corsair, Nautilus, and the flagship Navigator.

Contacted by Reuters, Lincoln spokesperson Anika Salceda-Wycoco declined to comment on the report by saying it’s “too early to talk about specific details around future vehicle or production plans.” Leading the way for the firm’s EV onslaught will be the aforementioned Aviator, which will hit the assembly line at the factory in Ontario, Canada either by the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.

Lincoln has already partially electrified some of its models by introducing plug-in hybrid powertrains for the Aviator and Corsair. According to a promise made last year by Lincoln, all models will be electrified by the end of the decade, but if Reuters’ report is to be believed, it looks like there has been a change of plan to fast-track the adoption of EVs.

EV versions of the Corsair and Nautilus are rumored to be assembled at the same plant in Oakville from 2025 or 2026, according to two sources within Lincoln with access to internal documents. Some of the products will ride on an upgraded platform underpinning the Mustang Mach-E, while the big-daddy Navigator EV is apparently slated to arrive in 2026. The full-size SUV will sit on a newly developed bespoke electric truck architecture that will also be used by the next-gen F-150 Lightning.

Even though it teased a future EV in June 2021, Ford’s luxury division is quite late to the electric vehicle party. That car still hasn’t been revealed, but the wait is almost over per a statement made by Lincoln’s North America director. In an interview with Automotive News, Michael Sprague said the company will “have more to share on our first BEV very soon.”

It’s unclear whether it will be a concept car or a production model, but it will come to celebrate 100 years since Ford bought Lincoln. We also know it will lead the way for a veritable EV onslaught as three additional models without combustion engines will follow by the end of the decade. All four are going to sit on a new Ford platform dedicated to EVs with rear- and all-wheel drive.

Purely electric cars will account for half of the automaker’s global sales volume by 2025, five years before fully electrifying the portfolio. That said, Lincoln’s EV push has suffered a setback since the Aviator EV had to be pushed back by 18 months to prioritize an increase in production for the Mustang Mach-E. For the same reason, the Blue Oval has delayed its all-electric Explorer.

Suppliers say both electric SUVs from Lincoln and Ford were originally scheduled to enter production by mid-2023. If accurate, it means the EV duo won’t hit the market until the beginning of 2025. Some would argue that revealing it three years before the production start is premature, but we’ve seen this move from other automakers. The most relevant example is Tesla, notoriously known for delaying the rollout of products.

From the few details released by Lincoln for its inaugural EV, we’ve learned it will have support for OTA updates and ActiveGlide hands-free highway driving technology. The design is said to take after the Zephyr Reflection concept and a panoramic sunroof is in the offing. In addition, a full-width LED light bar at the front has been previously teased, along with a four-seat interior with individual rear seating.

The next-gen infotainment system will run on Google’s Android Automotive with side-by-side screens as we’re seeing in more and more EVs. Speaking of displays, there’s going to be a rear-seat entertainment system with an impressively wide screen mounted on the headliner. Lincoln’s first EV has been confirmed to get a “Rejuvenation “mode to create a cozy and relaxing atmosphere by making changes to the lighting, seats, audio, and the built-in perfume.

Full details should follow in the coming weeks or months.

While parent company Ford has already embraced EVs with the Mustang Mach-E, its luxury division Lincoln is only now signaling the dawn of an electric era. 2022 will mark the brand’s centenary and to celebrate the important milestone, the high-end American marque is going to unveil its very first electric car. It’s part of a greater plan to have four zero-emissions models on sale by the end of the decade.

Until that happens, Lincoln estimates half of its global sales will consist of EVs by 2025 before offering a fully electrified lineup by 2030. To get there, new rear- and all-wheel-drive battery-electric architectures will be developed to support the four EVs planned to arrive this decade. The first of the bunch will complement the Aviator and Corsair SUVs, which both offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Details about the new electric vehicles remain shrouded in mystery for the time being, but the adjacent teasers suggest the first of the bunch will likely be an SUV. It has a roomy interior with four individual seats and side-by-side dashboard displays. The bulge in the headliner above the front seats could be there to host screens for the rear-seat entertainment system.

Stepping outside of the vehicle, the first production Lincoln EV will get a full-width light bar at the front, flanking the company’s badge that also lights up. A panoramic roof is being confirmed by the North American company, along with a design language inspired by the stunning Zephyr Reflection concept introduced earlier this year at the Auto Shanghai 2021 in China.

The first Lincoln to do without a combustion engine will support over-the-air updates bringing improvements post-purchase. Lincoln ActiveGlide hands-free highway driving technology is also being promised, making use of cameras, radars, and driver-monitoring systems. Much like it’s the case with Ford’s BlueCruise, ActiveGlide will work on select sections of divided highways, which Lincoln refers to as Hands-Free Blue Zones.

Future models will take advantage of a newly developed digital platform based upon Google’s Android Automotive operating system and will offer a so-called Rejuvenation mode. When activated, owners “can create their own sensory environment through various display, lighting, climate, seat, massage, scent and audio settings.” The luxury marque goes on to say it’s “experimenting with digital scenting techniques, exploring how warm, pleasant scents positively affect the mood and overall well-being of passengers.”
