Tesla took its sweet time coming out with the Model X Refresh following the SUV’s debut at the beginning of the year, with customer deliveries only starting a couple of weeks ago. The updated version is finally here now, and YouTuber OCDetailing had the opportunity to take a thorough look and discover what the Palo Alto brand has changed for 2021.
The version featured here has a six-seat configuration with its heated and cooled perforated seats, plus all the improvements we already saw on the Model S Refresh. Of course, the Model X is substantially more spacious on the inside as even adults can comfortably sit on the third-row seats. Needless to say, the main attraction in the cabin is now the new infotainment featuring a landscape orientation as most cars today now have, with a few exceptions.
The much-debated yoke steering wheel of the Model S has found its way inside the Model X as well and it looks just as futuristic as it did on the sedan. It’s still very much a love/hate affair as some have praised Tesla for being this bold while others have criticized the company for replacing the conventional wheel with something that makes maneuvering in tight spaces a lot more difficult.
It’s worth mentioning OCDetailing says at one point in the video, around the 7:28 mark, that the Model X Refresh has a horizontal strip to the right of the infotainment that could be a screen Tesla has yet to activate. However, that’s not the case as it’s nothing more than a trim piece finished in glossy black that extends all the way on the front passenger side of the dashboard. It’s also on the left side of the steering wheel to make the dash look a bit more premium.
There’s not much to say about the exterior since the visual tweaks have been kept down to a minimum in typical Tesla fashion. You’d have to be a diehard fan to notice that the wheels now have a different design and that the chrome accents have been removed. The designers also discreetly updated the look of the front bumper and modified the rear bumper skirt to accommodate a center-mounted trapezoidal shape.
It would appear Tesla has another winner on its hands with the Model X Refresh, an electric SUV ready to compete with upcoming rivals that have been announced, chief of which being the Mercedes EQS SUV coming in 2022.
