Camo-free Genesis GV60 spied looking less flashy with black paint

It was only a few days ago when Genesis unveiled the GV60 and now the dedicated EV is making the headlines once again. This time around, gone is the rather eccentric neon green paint featured in the press images as a near-production prototype has been caught in a parking lot in South Korea wearing a less in-your-face paint: black.

It certainly seems less flashy than the electric crossover presented by Genesis, and dare we say it’s all for the better. This one too has the side cameras, but bear in mind these are not legal in many parts of the world, meaning most GV60s will have conventional side mirrors. The fancy wheels featuring an intricate spoke design are the same as seen in the official images, lending the company’s first bespoke electric car a special look.

As far as the interior is concerned, the prototype had the same navy-blue theme with contrasting neon green accents as the GV60 presented by Hyundai’s luxury division. Some would argue the difference between the subtle exterior and striking interior are a bit too much, but we’re glad Genesis is bold enough to offer such great diversity to cater to wider customer tastes.

While technical specifications have yet to be revealed, it’s easy to see the GV60 looks dramatically different than the mechanically related Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. It will ride on the same E-GMP platform, potentially bringing rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations with single- and dual-motor versions, respectively.

Many have criticized the electric crossover’s design, but we think some of the complaints had to do with Genesis’ unusual paint color choice. The styling is undoubtedly interesting, signaling a new wave of EVs, and we think people will gradually get used to the GV60’s spectacular appearance after seeing it in the real world instead of images and videos.

The full debut is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks when we’ll get to learn how Genesis has managed to differentiate the GV60 from its mainstream cousins beyond giving it new clothing.
