We haven’t heard much about French luxury brand DS Automobiles lately but there’s now some exciting news to share. Meet the E-Tense Performance, a drop-dead gorgeous coupe conceived to preview the company’s future design language. It has been envisioned as a sporty coupe with a low roof and a massive rear diffuser.
The LED lighting at the front and rear looks incredibly sharp and quite fitting for an avant-garde performance car with zero emissions. The stunning concept takes after the 2016 E-Tense and has been envisioned as a more aggressive follow-up to showcase EVs can be just as exciting as gasoline-fueled vehicles.
It has the technical specifications to back up such a bold design by featuring two electric motors providing a combined output of 805 horsepower (600 kilowatts). With one motor driving the front axle and the other the rear wheels, the DS E-Tense Performance concept boasts all-wheel drive. The weight penalty caused by the EV-related hardware has been partially offset by the adoption of a carbon monocoque.
The battery capacity has not been disclosed, but we do know it has a compact size and sits within a carbon-aluminum composite envelope. It has been installed in a central rear position to improve weight distribution akin to a gasoline supercar featuring a mid-engined layout. The sophisticated battery can deliver phases of acceleration and regeneration of up to 600 kilowatts for quicker acceleration and energy recuperation, respectively.
The vehicle’s performance will be tested in the real world in February by the company’s racing side.
