The BMW iX3 debuted in 2020 but already got the facelift last year. Contrary to the usual BMW lifecycle, the iX3 electric SUV received a sooner-than-expected facelift to bring its design in line with that of the regular X3 updated in 2021. The China-built BMW iX3 is offered exclusively with RWD with an electric motor mounted at the back. I

It’s in direct contrast to the iX as the larger SUV is an xDrive-only affair by featuring a standard front motor. How quick is it? The German brand claims it will do 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.8 seconds. The folks at CarExpert put that number to the test by evaluating its acceleration performance off the line.

According to the test, the BMW iX3 completed the run in 6.72 seconds while pumping out futuristic sounds through its speakers. It’s 0.6s slower than the iX xDrive40, which is 180 kg (397 lbs) heavier, at 2,365 kg (5,214 lbs).

The BMW iX3 represents a stepping stone to a more advanced EV planned on the Neue Klasse platform. The iX3 rides on the CLAR architecture, but more sophisticated versions are in the works on the Neue Klasse underpinnings. In the meantime, the iX3 will have to make do, but it’s facing some stiff competition. We’re not just talking about the obvious Tesla Model Y, but also newcomers such as the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Genesis GV60, and Audi Q4 E-Tron.

When the Jaguar I-Pace first debuted, it wowed the car enthusiast fanbase with its gorgeous looks and surprisingly fun driving dynamics. Despite not being as good of an EV as cars like Teslas, the I-Pace was the EV that enthusiasts wanted because it was more fun, more exciting, and far better looking than any EV. However, what if you want something a bit less conspicuous and a bit more comfortable, like a BMW iX3?

In this new video from Electrifying, Ginny Buckley tests both the Jaguar I-Pace and BMW iX3 back-to-back to see which one’s best. While that might seem a bit unfair, because the iX3 is so much newer than the Jag, the latter is still an incredibly desirable car.

The Jag is certainly the more special feeling car inside. Its design is more interesting, its seats are cooler, and it has a lower, more driver-focused driving position. While the BMW iX3 is lovely inside, with all of the same build quality as a standard X3, it’s just not as good looking inside as the Jaguar I-Pace. Though, the Bimmer’s tech is better.

In terms of practicality, the BMW iX3 isn’t much better than the I-Pace, surprisingly. The Jag’s back seat is actually more comfortable than the BMW’s, even for three people, and its trunk is actually bigger than  the iX3’s with the seats up. However, when both cars’ rear seats are folded down, the BMW is more capacious. Additionally, the BMW iX3’s trunk aperture is easier to load stuff into. Though, the Jag claws back (no pun intended) with a small frunk, something the BMW lacks.

The two cars trade blows again on the road. The BMW iX3 uses a smaller battery but actually gets more real-world range. Though, the Jaguar makes up for that with quite a bit more speed and far more engaging handling.

So which one is best? Check out the video below to find out but it’s much closer than we thought it would be.

The new BMW iX3 is now getting its launch in the UK and, to mark the moment, the cars are now being offered in two exclusive editions too, made specifically for the local market. Customers can now choose between the Premier Edition and Premier Edition Pro. Both of them are fitted with enhanced levels of standard equipment, come with a choice of four exterior body paint options and two exterior trim choices.

The exterior color choices for these two exclusive editions will be: Carbon Black, Mineral White, Phytonic Blue and Sophisto Grey. All of them are metallic. Furthermore, the exteriors can be decorated with either Brushed Aluminum or Black High Gloss exterior trims. The Premier Edition also comes with standard 20″ aerodynamic wheels, an automatic tailgate, adaptive suspension and a panoramic sunroof.

Inside the cabin of the iX3 Premier Edition you’ll find Vernasca leather in a choice of four colors, Sensatec dashboard, sun protect glazing, ambient lighting and electrically adjustable seats. Additional standard features include wireless phone charging, heated front seats and the brand’s very latest driver assistance technology, including Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant and BMW Live Cockpit Professional.

For the Premier Edition Pro you’ll also get BMW Head-up Display, Harman Kardon surround sound, Gesture Control, Parking Assistant Plus, Automatic high beam assistant, Comfort access and Lumbar support. BMW Iconic Sounds Electric, developed in collaboration with Hans Zimmer, completes the offering. Prices will kick off at £58,850 for the BMW iX3 Premier Edition and go up to £61,850 for the Premier Pro version. Both cars are already available to order. Deliveries, however, will take a while as BMW is currently facing issues with the silicone chip supply.

When BMW first announced the iX3, we were optimistic. The standard BMW X3 is a good car, so making an electric one, in theory, would create a good electric car. However, the final product ended up underwhelming a lot of enthusiasts, due to its relative lack of power, range, and features. Plus, it wasn’t cheap, either. With a bit of time in between its initial release and now, maybe the benefit if hindsight will help enthusiasts appreciate its charms? We find out in this episode of The Late Brake Show.

In this new episode, TLBS host Johnny Smith provides a comprehensive look at the BMW iX3, its pros, its cons, and what it’s like to drive. If you’re curious about an iX3, this is the video you should watch, as Smith leaves no stone unturned.

The bones of the BMW iX3 are good, being that it’s based on the standard, and already quite good, BMW X3. However, because it’s not a dedicated EV architecture (though BMW claims its CLAR chassis was built with EVs in mind), BMW wasn’t able to fit a big enough battery or electric powertrain to truly make the iX3 a great EV SUV. Additionally, BMW buys the battery pack from a supplier in China, versus making the battery pack itself for the car.

To make up for that, though, its EV powertrain, which is made by BMW, is quite efficient. Smith was able to average around 3.7 miles per kWh, which is quite good for an EV SUV. In fact, most Tesla owners brag about 4 miles per kWh, so nearly that out of an SUV that isn’t built on an EV platform is pretty good.

It’s also pretty good to drive, the BMW iX3. It has good steering, decent body control, it’s quick enough, and it rides nicely. It’s more engaging to drive than many of its competitors but it’s not as quiet or comfortable.

Overall, it seems like the BMW iX3 isn’t a bad EV but there are likely better alternatives on the market. Cars like the Mustang Mach E or Audi Q4 e-tron might be more your speed. Watch the video to find out.

It’s quite obvious that BMW has to focus more on electric models moving forward. It’s not necessarily something the fans want, but that’s what the market and regulatory bodies demand. So the Bavarian giant has to keep up with the expectations. To that end, we’re seeing more ads and videos and interesting tidbits online about the electric side of things over in Munich. We’ve seen the BMW iX and i4 showcased and now we’re checking out a car that’s already available for purchase in certain markets: the BMW iX3.

It’s still a conundrum why BMW decided to keep the iX3 away from the U.S. market but the lucky people in other places around the world who can buy the electric version of the X3 will still be interested in learning more about it. As you might’ve heard, the iX3 got a mild facelift earlier this month, to keep it in tune with its more conventional brothers, the BMW X3 and X4. Just like them, the iX3 got a new face, with a new bumper, new headlights and slightly different kidney grilles, as well as a similar change done to the rear end.

Inside the cabin things remained largely the same. You still have BMW i Blue accents here and there to remind you of the eco-friendly character of the car, but not a lot changed. What you do need to know though is that, depending on where you live, your charging solutions might be better than you expected. If you get a BMW Charging card, you can access a wide range of charging stations and you can even benefit from all sorts of discounts, via the BMW Charging app.

If that’s not to your liking, you can charge the BMW iX3 at home, using a regular wall socket or you can get a Wallbox installed for additional power. The fastest way to charge the iX3 though remains with a high-power charger. The electric X3 can use 150 kW chargers, which would then take the battery up to 80% charge in a bit over 30 minutes. Two years after its unveil and the BMW iX3 electric SUV is getting a facelift. The updates are strictly visual and it starts with the front fascia. The 2022 BMW iX3 now features a modified design for the headlights which are 10 millimeters slimmer than on the outgoing model. The kidney grille has gone through changes as well and it is now larger in size and featuring a single-piece frame. It is painted in the Pearl-effect Chrome with a few blue accents on the outer edges. The slats are now in-line with other BMW models and feature a mesh pattern.

BMW iX3

Furthermore, the BMW iX3 now comes standard with the M Sport Package. So the iX3 now features a larger lower air intake with a ten-stage active air flap control for the cooling of the drivetrain and brakes. The air curtains are now L-shaped and adorned with more blue accents. The air breathers are also derived from M models. In the back, the iX3 stands out with its slim taillights and a slightly revised diffuser. 19-inch wheels are fitted as standard, but an optional aero 20-inch M wheel is available as well. This can be ordered in Jet Black.

BMW iX3

The refreshed design cues continue on the inside as well. Sport seats are now standard, as well as the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3 inch screen. The blue accents are still visible around the Start/Stop button and the gear lever. In terms of premium materials, you can order the BMW iX3 Facelift with Vernasca leather in Mocha, Oyster or Black with blue stitching. If you’re on the sustainability side of things, Sensatec upholstery in Black or Cognac is available as a standard option. Since the M Sport Package is included by default, customers will also get an Anthracite-colored headliner and interior trim in the Aluminum Rhombicle dark finish. Three additional trims are available.

BMW iX3

Two equipment lines are included in this facelift. The “Inspiring” line with most of the standard features already mentioned and the “Impressive” package which adds 20-inch wheels, acoustic glazing for the front door windows, Vernasca leather, BMW Gesture Control and much more. The BMW IconicSounds are also included in the package. Hans Zimmer and Renzo Vitale also composed the Start/Stop acoustic sequence for this LCI iX3.

BMW iX3

There are no changes to the battery capacity or power output. So the 2022 BMW iX3 still outputs 286 horsepower and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The battery capacity stays at 80 kWh gross and 74 kWh net. The WLTP range for the iX3 is rated at 460 km (286 miles).

Production of the 2022 BMW iX3 will kick off this September at the Shenyang plant in China. There are still no plans to bring the BMW iX3 to the U.S. market.

BMW is getting ready to launch its brand new electric models, the iX and i4. The two will be built using extensive in-house developed technology. Today, the production of the e-Drive train components for the two kicked off. The new models will be using what BMW calls ‘fifth-generation’ high-voltage batteries and battery modules which means they will have the most advanced technology available.

Production began in Dingolfing at the Competence Center set up over there by BMW for electric cars, with the sole purpose of developing new technology meant to give the company a leg up in the field. Production of the fifth-generation electric motors also kicked off for the BMW iX and i4 even though the same power units were already being made for the iX3 since 2020.

“We expect at least 50 percent of the vehicles we deliver to our customers worldwide to be electrified by 2030. To achieve this, we are relying on our extensive in-house drive train expertise: We are increasing capacity at existing drive train production locations – like here in Dingolfing – and developing capabilities at others – like recently in Regensburg and Leipzig,” explained Dr Michael Nikolaides, Senior Vice President, Production Engines and E-Drives, BMW Group.

Therefore, BMW expects the demand for electric cars to go up considerably over the next few years and, in order to keep up with it, the company announced an investment of over 500 million euros in expanding the production capacity of its Dingolfing location up until 2022. This way, the plant will be capable of making more than 500,000 e-drives for BMW models starting late next year.

Other locations will also undergo serious changes, including Leipzig, Regensburg and the Steyr plants. They will also be upgraded up until 2022 following an investment of another 200 million euros. Standard production of the BMW iX will soon get underway at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, followed by production of the BMW i4 at Plant Munich in the autumn.

The iX3 electric crossover is one of the newest BMW models to launch globally. While the new EV won’t arrive in the United States, it’s currently going on sale in different markets. Yet, BMW is now ready to give the iX3 a lifecycle impulse. To our knowledge, this is the fastest facelift in the history of the brand, but arguably needed since the regular X3 Facelift is under way.

Today, “courtesy” of a leak from China, we get to see what iX3 Facelift would look like. Just like the gasoline and diesel-powered X3, the iX3 electric SUV gets a new kidney grille design. The two kidneys are now interconnected – similar to the BMW M2 Competition – while retaining the thick outer edge.

Next are the headlights with a slightly different “exterior design” but with visible changes inside. The new light graphics are quite cool actually, giving the car a higher-tech look. The lower part of the front-end is identical to the X3 featuring some bold shapes for enhanced aggressiveness.

Moving to the rear and you’ll immediately notice the new taillights. They feature a 3D shape at the outer edge with a new light running inside. The interior graphics are all updated and they’re poised to look great at night. Of course, no tailpipes for the iX3, so the overall rear-end is pretty clean and appealing.

We expect some changes inside, especially around the tech part (maybe iDrive 8?), but certainly no revolutionary facelift. The BMW iX3 LCI should debut in June with production starting shortly in the weeks after.

Thanks to an extensive fleet of plug-in hybrid models, BMW posted an impressive quarter in terms of electrified vehicles sales. According to a press release, BMW delivered 70,207 electrified vehicles to customers during the first three-months of 2021. In comparison, BMW sold 30,692 units during the same period in 2020. Therefore, an increase of 128.7 percent this year. The numbers also include 14,161 units of the fully electric BMW iX3, BMW i3 and MINI Cooper S models. The figure points to a jump in sales of 119.3 percent over 2020 (6,457 units).

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With over 12 fully electric models by 2023, BMW has a target of increasing its sales of fully electric vehicles by an average of more than 50 per cent per year through to 2025. By then, the BMW Group plans to have nearly two million fully electric vehicles on roads worldwide.

BMW will unveil in a few weeks the all-new i4 Gran Coupe, along with the iX electric crossover. The former will directly take on the Tesla Model 3 – one of the strongest performers in the segment – while the iX goes after the plethora of electric crossovers that have recently emerged. Additional variants and new models will arrive in 2022-2023, including the 7 Series electric i7, i5 business sedan, iX1 entry-level EV, MINI Countryman and GP.

Markets like China – where the electric segment is rapidly growing – will receive additional models, including a rumored 3 Series electric and some MINI products. By 2025, BMW will revamp its entire electric cars strategy and technology. The automaker already announced a new platform – working name Neue Klasse. The EV-centric platform will host a new range of vehicles, from a new iX3 to more electric crossovers. There are also rumors of the next 3 Series going all-electric and/or hybrid, but that’s still on the strategy board for now.

By the looks of things, it seems like the electric revolution is upon us. That implies a number of things, one of the most important being a dire need to change the way we use our cars and some of our habits behind the wheel. The limited electric range of some EVs can help out in that regard, forcing people to reconsider the way they use their cars. BMW decided to put together a video, showcasing how you can be as efficient as possible while driving an EV.

What you should know, from the get go, is that some of these tips are nothing new. Most of them are known by those who have always been a bit careful about how much money they spend on gas every day. Now that range is a very important factor when you’re relying on your battery to get around these tips might be more important than ever. For example, it’s a known fact that removing any excess weight from your car will cut the energy or fuel consumption.

The same goes for keeping the windows closed and watching the tire pressure, to make sure it’s just right. In the case of electric cars like the iX3, the Tire Pressure Monitor even shows you what kind of values are perfect to be as efficient as possible. There are other tricks available on board modern-day BMW electric cars too though.

For example, the Eco Pro mode can be configured to be as energy efficient as you’d like. You can adjust it to cut the energy used by the seated heats, the HVAC system or even the lights. You can also make sure to use the BMW Adaptive regenerative braking function. This will allow the car to seamlessly switch between coasting and regenerative braking, depending on the driving situation. All of this and more tips await in the video below.
