Audi e-tron GT seen driving on the Highway

When it finally debuts, the Audi e-tron GT is going to be the most exciting car in the brand’s lineup, even more exciting than the mid-engine R8. Sure, the R8 is incredible but the e-tron GT will usher in a new era of Audi supercars. It’s going to be the future. So, naturally, we’re rather excited about it. Unfortunately, we still have to wait, as the e-tron GT won’t make its official debut until late in 2020. Which is why we’ll take any quick glimpse of it that we can.

In this new spy video, seen in the Instagram post below, you can see the Audi e-tron GT driving along the highway in the rain. It’s a short clip and doesn’t show much but it’s better than nothing.

From this clip, we can see that it will keep the same sort of taillights as the e-tron GT Concept car we saw last year. It will also have an active rear wing, which will deploy at highway speeds.

If you’re watching the clip and thinking that it looks a lot like the Porsche Taycan, you’re not crazy. The Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan are built on the same J1 architecture and shared some of their development processes. So their similar styling is no accident.

Another thing the e-tron GT shares with the Taycan is its powertrain. To be more specific, the Audi e-tron GT will get the same (or at least a very similarly tuned version) electric powertrain as the Taycan 4S. So expect a similar 79.2 kWh battery pack with around 522 hp and a 0-60 mph time of under four seconds.

That’s slower than the Audi R8 by about a second but the e-tron GT won’t use a drop of gas during its sprint and it will be able to carry four people doing it. So I’d say that’s a win for the e-tron.
