2024 Chevy Blazer SS Teased As Electric Performance Crossover

Speaking at CES 2022 in January during a conference held in Las Vegas, General Motors CEO Mary Barra announced plans for a fully electric Blazer. The crossover without a combustion engine is going to be launched in 2023 and aims to be “priced right with a high level of refinement and options.” Interestingly, now we get to learn there will also be a performance version carrying the familiar “SS” suffix.

The adjacent 20-second teaser is actually a video rendering rather than the real crossover. Even so, we get to discover the Chevy Blazer SS has an electrically operated fuel cap for the illuminated charging port mounted on the front fender on the driver’s side. Those two-tone alloy wheels proudly carry the “SS” lettering in red to denote the vehicle’s sporty nature.

Chevy says it will fully reveal the Blazer SS sometime this year, but it won’t go on sale until spring 2023. It will be the first electric model to bear the SS moniker and will hit the roads next year along with the already revealed Silverado EV pickup truck as well as the Equinox EV previewed a couple of months ago. Considering the latter will cost an estimated $30,000, logic tells us the Blazer will be more expensive, especially in SS flavor.

While new EVs with the bowtie emblem are on their way, some of the others might be discontinued in the coming years. We’re specifically talking about the Bolt hatchback and its EUV crossover sibling since the Orion Township where the two are built will make other vehicles from 2024. GM is spending $7 billion in Michigan for EV and battery production, but it hasn’t said a word about whether the two Bolt models will survive. For the time being, we know the overhauled plant will assemble the Silverado EV as well as the GMC Sierra EV.
